Wilgesscs UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BAPTIS DUEZ, OF CAMERON, LOUISIANA.
LlFTlNG-JACK.
srnorrromrroiv forming part of Letters IPatent No. 43*),182, dated September 30,1990.
I 7 Application filed May 22, 1890. Serial No. 352,729- (llo model) porting and lifting moderately heavy weights,
' especially carriages and wagons; and it consists of a combination-lever and screw-jack with a novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a liftingjack constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. 7
Like figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in the drawings.
1 represents the frame, of an approximate A shape, and consists of the two legs or standards 2 2, connected at the base by the foot portion 3, above which is abrace 4. Between and to the legs 2 2 at their apex is fastened a triangular block 5, having a vertically-threaded perforation 6 through its entire length, and in which perforation a setscrew 7 is designed to work, said screw being provided at its lower end with an ordinary head or cap 8 and at its upper end. tapering off to a point 9.
10 represents a piece consisting of a solid portion 11, having on its inner face a socket 122, in which the tapering point 9 of set-screw 7 works and makes said piece vertically adjustable thereon, and also of two arms 13, ex-' tending above the said solid portion and integral therewith, and between the upper ends of said arms there is pivoted a lever 14:. On the short end of said lever a hook 15 is pivoted, which is adapted to engage with the axle of the carriage or wagon or other object to be lifted and supported.
The operation of the jack is apparent, the hook being placed beneath the object to be lifted and the long arm of the lever being worked as is customary, the object being additionally raised and supported at any height desired by means of the adj usting-screw 7.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. In a lifting-jack, the combination, with a lifting-lever fulcrumed 011 a vertically-adjustable piece which is provided on its under face with a conical socket, of an A-shaped frame, a triangular block secured within said frame, and a setscrew working through said triangular block and engaging the conical socket of said adjustable piece, substantially as described.
2. In a lifting-jack, the combination of a lifting-lever pivoted between the arms of a vertically-adjustable piece which is provided on its under face with a conical socket, a threaded triangularly-shaped block secured between the tapering arms of an A-shaped frame, and a S6l):SC16W. working in the threaded perforation of said triangular block and provided at its upper end with a point adapted to fit and work in the socket of said adjustable piece, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aifixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BAPTIS DUEZ.
