Description
J. R. WRIGHT. ADJUSTABLE PIOTURE WIRE HANGER.
(No Model.)
No. 437,470. Patented Sept. 30. 1890'.
(I WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JAMES R. WRIGHT, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
ADJUSTABLE PICTURE-WIRE HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 437,470, dated September 30,1890.
Application filed May 3. 1890. Serial No. 350,474. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES R. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Pictureire Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to improvements in devices for hanging pictures; and it consists in providing adjustable plates, in combination with a wire or cord, whereby a picture may be readily raised or lowered on a wall, all as will be hereinafter fully explained.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in-
which Figure 1 represents a front view of my de vice. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan View of one of the plates, showing the same in blank form; and Fig. 4 is also a plan View showing the link connected to the plate.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates a fiat metal plate, which-is preferably stamped out of sheetmetal, in the form shown in Fig. 3. lhis plate is provided with two perforations a a and a tongue I), which, when the link a is connected thereto, is bent, as at d, into an eye 6. In combination with this plate I use a wire or cord f, and usually use two of the plates in hanging a frame; but, if desired, one or more can be used.
In applying my device the cord or wire is passed in one perforation and again passed out of the other perforation, thus providing a binding or biting of the cord or wire, and the latter thus applied to the plate is connected in a zigzag manner. Consequently the tighter the wire is drawn the tighter the cord or wire connects to the plate.
When it is desired to raise or lower a frame, the Wire is loosened in the perforations, the plate adjusted thereon, and the wire again drawn taut.
The link when attached to a common molding-hook g is held in a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, and in this position it is passed over the end h of said hook, after which it assumes the position shown in Fig. 1, thus rendering it impossible for the same to become displaced accidentally. It is taken off the hook in the same manner. To the eye in said plate I attach a screw-eye t, which is secured to a pictureframe. Thus it Willbeseen that aframe can be quickly and easily adjusted to different heights and securely held in place, and the plates can be ornamented according to taste, and at the same time the device is cheap to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with the hook g h and the loop or link 0, of the hinged plate Afprovided with perforations a a and an eye to form the hinge-connection with the link, and the angularly-bent wire f, engaging the perforations a Ct of the plate A, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
JAMES R. WRIGHT.
