E. E. LOMMATZSGI-I TOY TARGET No. 439,082. Patented Oct. 189OQ I [1U EnTur:

' .lillf isf UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST E. LOMMATZSCH, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
TOY TARGET.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 439,082, dated October 21, 1890.
Application filed January 2, 1890- Serial No. 335,634- (No model.)
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST E. LOMMATZSCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco,in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Targets, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my toy target, Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section through the middle of target.
The face of my target is constructed much in the usual way, having circular lines marked or numbered thereon and the usual bullseye A passing through the center thereof. To the inner end of the pin carrying the bulls-eye is fixed a block B, to which is connected a hook or arm 0, the block being kept steady by the lugs n n n, glued to the back of the tai-getboard. A gate D, having fanciful figures, is connected to the upper end thereof and slides up and down in Ways D connected to the uprights E E at the back of the target-board. To the cross-bar F of the gate is attached a staple G, with which the hook C engages and holds the gate down, thereby concealing the fanciful figures from view behind the target-board.
, The gate is operated bya weighted cord H,-
which passes over a sheave I and is attached to the cross-bar of the gate. When the gate is lowered, it carries down with it the fanciful figures, and the staple G engages the hook or arm 0, in which position the gate is held until an object or projectile strikes the bulls-eye, which releases the staple from the hook by driving the bulls-eye backward or inward and permits the gate to fly upward and carry the figures with it, presenting them to view.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
In a target, the combination, with a movable gate having a weighted cord for operating it and provided with a staple or opening at its base, of a bulls-eye movable in the target and having a bent arm or hook with its open end extended forward and adapted to engage the staple or opening in the gate, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
