Description

(No Model.) A. BE'RNSTEIN.
SUSPENDER CLASP. No. 456,465. Patented July 21, 1891.
INVENTOR WITNESSES I BY AWI/ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH BERNSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y;
SUSPENDER-CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 456,465, dated July 21, 1891.
Application filed February 26, 1891. Serial No. 382,888. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLPH BERNSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in clasps for suspenders, braces, and the like; and the invention consists in the details of construction set forth in the following specification and claim, and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which-- Figure 1 shows a face view of a clasp containing my invention. Fig. 2 is a section along m m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a face view. Fig. 4 is a rear view of the clasp, omitting the rear cross-bar. Fig. 5 is a section along y y, Figs. 3 and 4. Fig. 6 is a rear view of a clasp, showing the loose or independent cross-bar. Fig. 7 is a section along 2 ,2, Fig. 6.
In the drawings, the letters A A indicate the sheet-metal skeleton body of the clasp having a cross-bar B. In Fig. 1 the cross-bar Bis shown fixed or made integral with the clasp. In Figs. 6 and 7, in addition to the fixed cross-bar B, there is shown a loose or independent cross-bar C, which is held in place by being clasped or clamped by the body A. By providing the bars with teeth E said bars will get a firm hold on the straps. The bars may have two rows of teeth, as shown in the case of the bar in Fig. 1, or only one row of teeth, as shown in Fig. 2. By providing the body A with flanged edges F,
having teeth, the body will get a firm hold on the straps; but in case a smooth finish for the body is desired the body may be left free from teeth. IVhen the body A is toothed, I prefer to have but one row or set at the back of the clasps, so as to leave the face smooth and neat in appearance. The body at its lower end is provided with a tailpiece G, which is hooked or looped to receive a ring or attachment H, for securing suspender-ends. The ends can be secured or drawn through the ring 11, or the ring may be made to engage an end holder 1, Fig. 6, adapted to grasp and hold the suspender-ends.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A Suspender-clasp consisting of the sheetmetal skeleton body A, having the tail-piece G at its lower end, and provided at the front with a stationary or immovable cross-bar B, having a horizontal toothed edge, the rear cross-bar C, formed separate and independent of the skeleton body, having alongitudinallytoothed edge, and clamped at its opposite extremities by portions of the sheet-metal skeleton body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
- ADOLPH BERNSTEIN.
