UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GEORG. IV. STEFFENS, OF BROOKLYN, NEV YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE ORAIGHEAD d: KINTZ COMPANY,
SETTS.
OF BALLARDVALE, MASSACHU- INKSTAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 459,829, dated September 22, 1891.
Application filed April 23,1891. Serial No. 390,091. (No model.)
T0 all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that l, GEORG. W. SrEEFENs, of Brooklyn, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Inkstands, of which the following is a specification.A
I will describe an inkstand embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in a claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of an inkstand embodying my improvement with the cover closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the cover open. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section. Fig. 4 is a vertical section.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A designates the body ofthe inkstaud. It may be made of metal and of any approved design. When it is made of metal, it may contain an ink-well of glass or analogous material.
B designates the cover of the inkstand. It may advantageously be made of metal, although it can be made of any other suitable material. It will be made of adesgn appropriate to the design of the body ot the inkstand. For instance, the body of the inkstand may be made to vrepresent the upper portion of a man, and the cover the head of a man.
The body ot the inkstand is provided with a vertical socket a and the cover with a vertical pinl), surinounted byashoulderb. rlhe pin b tits in the socket a, and the shoulder h rests upon the top of the socket. Obviously the cover may be swung horizontally upon a vertical axis formed by the combination ot' the pin l) with the socket a, so as to cover or uncover the body of the inkstand. The shoulder b will support the bottoni of the cover slightly above the top ot the inkstand, so that the two parts will not become stuck together by ink on the upper surface of the inkstand.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent. is-
The combination, with the body of an inkstand havingavertical socket, cfa cover therefor having a vertical pin iitting said socket and a shoulder surrounding the pin between the body of the inkstand and the cove substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence ot' two subscribing witnesses.
GEORG. W. STEFFENS.
