My invention relates to an improvement in apparatus for cutting linoleum into shapes or figures,the object of the invention being to produce apparatus for the purpose stated, which shall be simple in construction, easy to manipulate and efiectual in the performance of its functions.

With these'objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts,as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings: Figurel is an elevation of my improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a side view. Figs. 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are detail views. p

A press A of any description which may be worked by power (preferably a Boomer press, as shown), is used. -A board B covered with a plate of lead 0 is supportedin front of the press by means of a bracket 0' attached thereto. The board B, together with the lead plate O,is capable of being pushed under the platen of the press and withdrawn therefrom, by means of handles d, fastened to said board. On top .the lead plate 0, a sheet of linoleum M,is placed and on the sheet of linoleum, a cutting block D is placed, on which cutting block outlines of the shapes or figures required by the pattern, are raised up in'thin steel knives or cutters D, said knives or cutters being preferably inserted in the block. In the center of each shape or figure of the cutting block D, a hole or perforation a is drilled through the block for the passage of fingers or pins which will be presently explained, whereby to eject the shapes or figures of linoleum after the cutting bloek has been pressed down upon the sheet of linoleum. As soon as the cutting block has been pressed thereby cutting through the sheet of linoleum by means of the raised steel outlines or knives D, the

block D and the platen of the press raised, the board B will be withdrawn and the block D lifted off of thelead sheet or plate 0, carrying with it the linoleum cut into shapes or figures, which latter are held by the steel knives of the block. The block D is then placed on a frame G and a block or frameH provided with pins or fingers P, is brought down upon the block D and the pins or fingers'P made to pass loosely through holes a in the block Din the center of each shape or figure, thereby forcing the shapes or figures of linoleum out of the block and cans ing-them to fall into a receptacle below, from whence they are removed as needed. The block or frame H will be properly guided in its vertical movement by means of rods H, which 'projectfrom the frame G and through perforations H in the block H. I prefer to provide the press A, with two brackets O, and

also to provide several frames 0, so that at least two men can operate the apparatus at the same. time.

The apparatus as shown in the drawings is adapted to be operated by two men. One stands at each side of the press, and whe mone withdraws his board and block, the man at the other side inserts his under the platen, and when he has pressed it, the first manhas emptied his shapes or figures into the recep-- tacle and put a new sheet of spongy linoleum on the lead and is ready to reinsert under the platen of the press.

The apparatus as above described is very simple in construction, easy to manipulate and effectual in the performance of its functions.

Slight changes might be made in the details of construction of the apparatus without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not wish 'to limit myself to the preise details of construction herein set forth ;but,

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In an apparatus for cutting linoleum into shapes, a cutting block having cutting knives adapted to cut the linoleum into shapes or figures, said block also. having perforations between the cutting knives, substantially as set forth.

shapes or figures, the combination with a cutting block having cutting edges or knives adapted to cut the linoleum into figures or shapes, said block also having a series of perforations located between the cutting edges or knives, of a block, and a series of fingers or pins projecting from said block, said fingers or pins being adapted to pass through the perforations in the cutting block to force the shapes or figures of linoleum therefrom, substantially as set forth.

3.- In an apparatus'for cutting linoleum, the combination with a frame having a receptacle therein, and a cutting block having cutting knives or edges and perforations between said specification in the'presence of cutting knives or edges, adapted to rest on said frame, of a vertically movable block,,

rods for "guiding said block, and. pins or fin- .frame, substantially asset forth.
