Description

. m A. A. BOURGEONS.
BIT.
, No.'514,1'78." 'Pat ented Feb; 6", 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
ABRAHAM A. BOURGEONS, OF EAST LONGMEADOW, MASSACHUSETTS.
BIT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,178, dated February 6, 1894.
Application filed September 7 1893- Serial No.484,993. (No model.)
companying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to bits; and its obj cots are hereinafter more fully described and specified. I accomplish these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a bit having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the extension.
The same letters refer to corresponding parts in all the views.
' A indicates the square end of an ordinary bit 0, adapted to be inserted in the socket of a revoluble handle, to which suitable power may be applied manually or otherwise. An
extension F having a sharp, tapering end, H
at the bottom is integrally constructed, at its upper terminus with the lever D having a centraLthreaded aperture E meshing with the threads of the bit O,and at its lower terminus with a threaded ring G, concentric with the aperture E of the lever D. It is thus apparent that in the boring operation the area of the resulting perforation has a common radius with that indicated by the combined radii of the bit and the extension F.
By providing extensions F of difierent widths, apertures of varying diameters are secured. V
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- The combination with the bit 0 of the variable extension F having a tapering sharp point H at its lower end and the threaded ring G in the same plane approximately therewith andhaving at its upper end a lever D with a central threaded aperture E meshing with the threads of the bit, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ABRAHAM A. BOURGEONS.
