Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OHRISTAN KLENK, OF CONNERSVILLE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WALTER S. JEWISS, OF SAME PLACE.
LIQUID WOOD--FlLLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 524,781, dated August 21, 1894:.
Application filed March 2'7, 1894:. Serial No. 505,338. p ns-l To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRSTAN KLENK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gonnersville, in the county of Fayette and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Liquid Wood-Fillers, of which the following is a specification.
Ordinary wood fillers require a great deal of labor in applying in order to produce a smooth surface. They are usually also very combustible.
The object of my invention is to produce a wood filler which shall not have these disadvantages, and it consists of the following compound, viz: linseed oil, one gallon; magnesia, one-fourth pound; rosin, one pound; glue, onefourth pound; red lead, one pound litharge, one pound.
I have used successfully the foregoing proportions in producing this filler, but of course said proportions may be varied somewhat without departing from my invention. Coloring matter may be added according to the work desired to be done. These ingredients are to be assembled together, and boiled and stirred until thoroughly mixed.
This filler, when made, can be applied directly to the wood, like varnish, and it is not necessary to rub it 0% with rags or otherwise, as is required with the fillers commonly used. 0 A single coat is sufficient, and when dry it can at once be sandpapered and varnished over. The work where my filler is employed can be given a fine polish finish with two coats of varnish, whereas four coats of var- 3 5 nish are usually required with the fillers commonly used. An operator is thus enabled to do a much larger amount of work than with fillersformerly used, while the material, not being combustible, much of the former dan- 4o ger in this kind of work is obviated.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A liquid wood filler composed of linseed 45 oil, magnesia, rosin, glue, red lead, and litharge, in substantially the proportions above specified. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 5 24th day of March, A. D. 1894.
