Description
NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
TO L. H.
BUGGY-TO STEVENS.
P SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 525,986, dated September 11, 1894.
Application filed February 21, 1894. Serial No. 501,024. (Nomodel.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIS W. KRUTsoH, of Coffeyville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Buggy-Top Support, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a certain new and useful support for buggy-tops, and my invention consists in certain features of novelty hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the said drawings, Figure I is a perspective View of a buggy With my support applied thereto. Fig. II is a rear view of the buggytop, and Fig. III is a detail perspective View 0f my support.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
I represents the arm of the support which is formed with the sleeve 2 and by which the support is pivotally attached to the shiftingrail 4, through the medium of the pin 3.
5 represents an extension formed integral with thearm and extending beyond the sleeve, and 6 represents a lug which erigages with the shifting-rail when the top is let down, as shown in Fig. I.
7 represents a fork formed on the rear or outer end of the arm l, and in which the bow l0 of the buggy-top rests when the top is let down. This fork may be provided With a lining 8, of rubber or like material to protect the bow from rubbing when resting therein. 9 represents a lateral extension also formed integral with the arm l, and it is adapted to be fastened to the back stays of the top. By this construction the buggy-top may be raised 4o or lowered by the support, and it also holds the back stays up when the buggy-top is let down.
When the buggy-top is let down, the bour 10 rests in the fork 7, and the lug 6 on the eX- tension 5 catches under the shifting rail 4 and in this manner the weight of the top is carried by the support. This manner of supporting the top relieves the strain on the top bow and the danger of its bending and breaking, as is the case when the weight rests on the top bow Which is carried by the stay rod in the usual construction.
My improved supports are made in pairs, right and left, and may be put on any buggytop by simply removing the pin 3 and slipping the sleeve thereon.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a support for buggy-tops, the combination of the arm l formed with the sleeve 2 for pivotally connecting it to the shifting-rail of the buggy-top, lthe lug 5 and the projection 6 for engaging the said shifting-rail when the top is in lowered position, the fork 7, and the extension 9 adapted to be secured to the back stays of thebuggy-top, substantially as shown I and described.
WILLIS W. KRUTSOH.
