Description

UNITED STATES GEORGE E. TAYLOR,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECKTIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,197, dated March 13, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE B. TAYLOR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Metallic and Enameled Fastening for Neckties and Collars; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description therof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot' this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front or face view of my invention applied to a necktie, Fig. 2, a front or face view of the saine applied to a turn-over collar; Fig. 3, a detached rear view of the same; Fig. 4, a detached top or bottom edge view ofthe same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to Obtain a fastening for neckties and collars constructed of metal and enameled, and in such a manner that a necktie or collar may be secured to the neck ofthe wearer, and also to the shirt, in a inoment of time, and at the same time present a chaste and appropriate appearance.
A represents the device, which may be constructed of gold, or cf any inferior metal gilded, or of silver. rlhe most appropriate form or design would be that of a knot, an imitation of those now made in tying an Ordinary neckribbon. Such design is shown in Figs. l and 2. And in order to imitate the fabric l have the device enameled black or other appropriate color, a metal rim, et, being left all around the enamel b. This mode of construction will prevent the device having a metallic appearance and cause it to resemble a knot made by tying the ends of some textile or flexible material.
Centrally from the rear side of the device there projects a button or stud, B, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and to the device at each side of said button or stud there is attached a hook, O, the points being turned inward toward the button or stud, as shown clearly in Fig. 4t.
/Vhen the device is applied to a neck tie or ribbon, D, as shown in Fig. l, the ends of D may be simply fastened to the hooks O (J. These neck ties or ribbons D are most generally used with a standing collar, E.
With a turnover collar, F, (shown in Fig. 2,) the device may beused without a tie or ribbon, D, the but-ton or stud B being passed through the button-holes at the ends of the neckband c, and then, if preferred, through the button-holes in the neckband of the shirt, in Order to keep the collar in proper position von the neck to prevent it from turning or rising; and'this button or stud may, it' desired, be thus adjusted or iiXed to the shirt when a tie Or ribbon and standing collar are used, as in Fig. 1.
Thus by this simple device the trouble and annoyance of tying knots inneck ribbons or ties is avoided, and with turn-Over collars the ribbon or tie may be dispensed with, the device being Only worn, as the ribbon or tie, itl used with a turn-over collar, would be concealed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The device A for securing a neck tie or'rib bon on the neck, including the hooks C C at the rear side of' the device and the button or stud B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
' GEO. B. TAYLOR. Witnesses:
M. M. LIVINGSTON, C. L. TOPLIEE.
