Description

UNITED STATES EEEDEEIK cATLIN,
0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVED BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Specification forming part of' Letters Patent No. 53,948, dated April 17, 1866.
l'o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK OATLIN, of New York, in the county of New York, and in the State of New York, have invented a new kind of Top for Bottles and Decanters. rlhe top is so constructed as to exclude dust, insects, Sac., and is air-tight, preventing evaporation, thereby leaving the liquor or any Ilnid whatever free from insects, dregs, &c. The liquor or any tluid whatever, by this invention, is conveyed into or poured ont ot' said bottle without removing the top, also preventing any waste of ilnid whatever; and said bottle and top has four times the flow through the aperture than any other top ever invented in this country; and l do hereby declare the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ot reference marked thereon, in whicha. is a cap to top; b, exterior ot' tube be'- tween shoulder and cap; c, shoulder to top 5 d, shoulder and head ot' bottle; c, lower tube ot' top; f, cork surrounding tube; h, washer to tube of top; fi, thread of tube ot top; j,in terior of neck of bottle; k, interior of bottle; n, exterior of neck ot' bottle; m, ring round neck of bottle.
The nature ot' my invention consists in providing a bottle or decanter with top so constructed with eachother as to bring the aperture of bottle and top close together, thereby doing away with cork obstruction in the neck ot' the bottle, leaving a clear, wide aperture for a full flow of liquor or any other kind of duid whatever. To accomplish this result l invent a bottle with a double aperture, the first aperture extending from body ot' bottle to head of the same. Second aperture, being larger than the rst, is confined to the head of said bottle, acting as shoulder to support ring and cork of top, as will be seen by letters in drawings. The chain acts as a safeguard to top and ring. The ring is used to designate, by letters, different liquors, as shown in letters on drawings.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
lhe new bottle and top, made substantially as herein described.
FREDERICK CATLIN.
