A TTORNEYS.

MARK GOLINSKY, OF ST. GEORGE, BERMUDA.
ARROWHEAD=SHAPED VESSEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,921, dated September 24, I895.
' Application filed November 26, 1894. Serial No. 530,055. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARK GOLINSKY, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at St. George, parish of St. George, in the Islands of Bermuda, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Hulls of Vessels, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of my invention to provide an improved form of hull for marine vessels, whereby their speed and steadiness will be increased.
The improvement is applicable to passenger and freight vessels as well as to those specially intended for use as transports or for defense in case of war.
According to my invention the bow or front portion of the hull presents in plan view the form of an arrowhead, the body or part of the hull in rear of such bow being at any point of less width than the widest portion of the bow. The screws or other propelling media are located in the angles of the arrowhead-bow and body of the hull.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of a vessels hull having substantially the form I have adopted, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
As shown, the bow A of the hull has the shape of an arrowhead, the breadth or beam of the same increasing from the stem (1 rearward until it attains a maximum at b, and then it abruptly narrows laterally, thus forming relatively wide offsets or shoulders, behind which propellers c are located. The extreme beam or width of the bow A at its rear extremity b is thus greater than the body or after portion B of the hull at any point, and
as related to the whole length of the hull the arrowhead-bow A is about one-third, the reduced body B of the same constituting the remaining two-thirds of such length. Hence the distinctive feature of my improved hull is that as a whole it is of the arrow-type and that the maximum beam is at a point forward of the midship section. Any preferred kind or form of propelling media 0 may be employed, and being directly in rear of the lateral offsets or shoulders I) on both starboard and port sides they are well protected from contact with any object either when the vessel is in motion or lying at the dock, besides being placed at points where they have most effective action in propulsion as well as in lifting the bow.
A propeller may be placed at the stern, so that the vessel may be effectively steered without a rudder or turned rapidly in a very narrow circle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A hull for marine vessels, having a bow which is of the arrow type or form, and whose maximum width or beam is at the rear extremity of the bow and forward of the midship section, substantially as shown and described.
2. A hull for marine vessels, having an arrow shape as shown, that is to say the bow or front third of the length of the hull widening from the bow rearward and having its great est width at its junction with the body of the hull, which is narrower at every point than the said bow, as shown and described.
3. The combination, with a hull for a marine vessel, having its bow, or the portion forward of the midship section, of arrow-head shape, and said bow forming abrupt lateral ofisets with the narrower after portion of the hull, of propellers located behind such offsets in the angles of the latter with the midship.
section, as shown and described.
