Description

D. PETERS.
Broom Head.
No. 54,765. r r Patented May 15,- 1866.
N PETERS. mmum w, Walhingmm 41c UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
DANIEL PETERS, OF EATON, OHIO.
IMPROVED BROOM-HEAD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL PETERS, of Eaton, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Broom-Heads; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the nature, construction, and operation of the same, sufficient to enable one skilled in the art to which it appertains to construct and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made part of this specification, and in which similar letters in the different figures refer to corresponding parts.
Figure l is an elevation of the broom-head, showing one of the fiat sides. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section on the line a b, Fig. 1.
The improvement consists in the mode of securing the screw-bolt, which opens and closes the wrapper to take out or fasten in the broomstraw.
In the drawings,
Arepresents the broomhandle,
and B the wrapper. O is a bolt or screw which attaches the handle to the wrapper at one point while the flattened end of the handle is stayed by the bolt D.
F F are two bars, which distribute the pressure along the sides of the wrapper as the bolt D is secured into the tube E, closing in the broom-straw and fastening it into the desired shape.
In the ordinary mode of compressing the broom-straw in the Wrappers the bolt D projects on the outer sides of both the plates F F; but in my improvement the threaded end of the bolt D enters a threaded tube, E, which does not project beyond the bar F, and therefore is not liable to catch against the clothes or otherwise to interfere with surrounding objects while being used in sweeping.
The Wrapper may be plain or perforated with holes, as convenience or taste may indicate.
Having described my. invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The tube E, which forms a guide and socket for the bolt D in its described combination with and relation to the said bolt, the Wrapper B, the handle A, and bars F F.
' DANIEL PETERS.
