Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEECE. A
H. M. CLARII, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES BLANCHARD, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLIND-FASTENERS To all rwhom it may concern:
Beit known that I. H. M. CLARK, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Blind-Fasteners 5 and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters ot reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, and which said drawings constitute part ot' this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a section of a window-frame, looking down upon my fastener', the blind being denoted in red as closed, and in Fig. 2, a like view of the blind open.
My invention is designed for opening and closing blinds from the inside and securing them in any desired position without necessarily opening the window.
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use my improvement, I will proceed to describe the same as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
A and A are the two janibs ot' a Windowframe, the blind, denoted in red, hung to the jamb A.
B is a knob on the inside, attached to a spindle passing through the window-sill. To its outer end is fixed a bevel-toothed wheel, C, which said wheel C works in a second beveltoothed wheel, D, upon the upper side of the sill, so that by turning the knob the wheel D will be revolved.
To the said wheel D is iixed a slotted bar, E, passing along the under side of the blind, as seen in Fig. l.
Through the slot in the said bar and secured to the blind is a pin, a. By turning the wheel D the bar E moves with it, bearing against the pin c. The blind also is moved as from the position in Fig. 1 to that in Fig. 2, or vice versa, the pin a moving freely through the slot in theI bar E.
Upon the inside the rose revolves with the knob, and is provided-with notches, into which a latch, c, drops, so that the knob may be held in anyposition.A When thc latch catchesinto a notch on the rose in this position the blind is securely held. y
The relative position of the bar E to the blind is such that when closed or open the blind nearly or quite covers the bar, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2.
I have represented the wheel C as being upon the outside. It may, if preferred, be arranged to work in the wheel D upon the inside, this change requiring only that the knob be turned in the opposite direction.
Having therefore thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination ot' the slotted bar E, pin a, the wheels C and D, and the knob B, or its equivalent, constructed and arranged to operate together, substantially as herein described.
H. M. CLARK.
