Be it known that I, JAMES J. TOBEY, of Boston, in the county of Suolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Scissors Sharpener, and yI hereby declare that the following is a full and vexact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying'drawings, and the letters of reference markedY thereon, making apart of this specification, of Which-4 Figure 1 is a perspective view of thel invention. Figure 2 isan end view of ditto. Figure 3 is a cross-section of ditto.'

My invention consists in so fastening a section of a rectangular file, or piece of steel the surfaces of which .are cut in the manner of a file, to a block of wood or metal, that by applying the scissors or shears with the hand th'e same are easily sharpened.

Fig. 1V in the drawings explains the invention. A is a block of wood, of any suitable kind, or the block may be composed of metal; it is rectangular in form, with its upper surface'partially chipped olf so as to allow the steel to sit squarely down upon .the surface of the block, with one of its .sides pressed against the shoulder made by chipping off part of the surface of the block.- B isQ the Sharpener, composed of steel, having all its sides out in the manner of a tile; when one side of the steel is worn by use, unscrew and change the side of the steel. C is-a screw or any simple fastening to keep the steel in its place. In order to use the invention, ltake the block in one hand, or place it upon a bench or table, with the side having the screw downwards; take the scissors or shears in the other hand, holding the at surface of the scissors to the surface of the block, and

draw the edge of the scissors back' and` forth on the steel. The surface of the block on the side of the steel may be rectangular or otherwise, as may be most practicable. The invention is simple, cheap, and of practical utility. The cost of the article will be triiling, and one-in a family will last for a long time for the purposes of scissors grinding or sharpening. I

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination and arrangement of the block A, the steel lB, and the screw C, in such a way as to form a scissors sharpenerfsubstantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth. I
