CORSET.
. SPECIFICATION forming ,pa-rt 0f Let/GETS Patent NO. 628,372, dated Jul'y 4, 1899.
Application filed November 7, 1898. Serial No. 695,729. (No model.)
To @ZZ wiz/017@ it may concern,.-
Be it known that l, FRANK TUCEK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, executor under the last will and testament of MARIE TUCEK, deceased, late a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, who did in her lifetime inventa new and Improved Corset, do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved corset arranged to insure a proper fitting on the body of the wearer and to permit of forming the upper body portion of each half of the corset of a single piece of fabric material, thus avoiding a multiplicity of seams and rendering the corset more durable and lasting.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had'to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a side elevation of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with the hip-piece open, and Fig. 3 is an inside view of the improvement.
- The corset is made with the usual two halves laced together at the back and adapted to be fastened together at the front in the usual manner. Each half of the corset is provided with a body A, formed with the usual breast-pocket B and terminating at its lower edge along the waist-line, the rear end being formed with an extension A', projecting below the waist-line lower edge, as plainly shown in the drawings. A hip-piece C is secured to the lower edge of the body A, and
its rear end C is overlapped by the body extension A', as is plainly indicated in Fig. 3,
l said hip-piece forming, with the body A, the
to the forward lower end of the hip-piece C, suitable fastening devices being provided for this purpose.
As shown in Fig. 2, loops E are secured to the hip-piece C and hooks E to the free end of the hip-band for connecting the latter to the hip-piece, said loops and hooks being suitably placed by the wearer of the corset to insure a proper fitting of the same. The hip-band D overlaps the lower end of the hippiece C, so that when the corset is in use the hip-band and hip-piece appear continuous to properly cover the hip portion of the wearer.
By the arrangement described the hip-band D can be readily detached from the hip-piece C when it is desired to open or close the corset to allow convenient opening and closing of the same without undue strain on the hip portion of the corset, so as not to break the corset or otherwise injure the same.
By the arrangement described the body A is made of a single piece of fabric material, and consequently the multiplicity of seams for connecting the various pieces heretofore employed for forming the body portion are completely avoided, and the corset is thus made more durable and lasting.
It will be seen that by having the connection of the hip-piece C with the bodyAalong the Waist-line and the rear or inner end of the hip-.piece loose said hip-piece is free to accommodate itself to fthe configuration of the hip of t-he wearer with the waist-line seam as the fulcrum for the piece to swing or rnove on.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
l. A corset, comprisinga body terminating along the front and side at the Waist-line and extended downward at the rear beyond the waist-line, and a hip-piece secured to that portion of the body which terminates at the waist-line, the rear end of said hip-piece being extended beyond the front edge of the extension of the body and being separate from said extension, as and for the purpose set forth. Q
2. Acorset comprising a body terminating along its front and side at the waist-line and extended at the rear beyond the waist-line, a hip-piece having its upper edge fastened to IOO .that portion of the body which terminates at Joension, a hip-band secured at one end to the rear extension of the body and overlapping I 5 lhe lower end of the hip-piece, and meansfor removably connecting the free end of the band with the loweigfronb end of the hip-piece, substantially as shown and described.
FRANK TUOEK, Eecutor under the last will cmd testament of llfcme Tucec, deceased.
