. TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that. I SAMUE'l3 B. FAY, of Franklin, in the county of Venango, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful impro"ements in String Tags; and do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the use of small metallic tips out from thin sheets of metal said tips being made oval at one end and pointed at the other, and Provided with an opening or hole in which the string of the tag is inserted and secured, as will be more fully set forth.
In the drawings A represents a piece of cloth to which the tag is to be attached. 0 0 represent the metallic tips pointed at one end and oval at the other, being provided with a. hole at the oval end in which the tegstring is inserted. B is the tag and D the string. The tag string being inserted in the hole in the tip and securely attached, the pointed end of said tip is forced through the cloth, and the string is drawn through the opening which is made. The tip, after running through the cloth, may be secured either by a knot or a slip-noose.
Having thus fully described my invention, whet I ela-im is- The metallic tip 0, formed with a. point at one end and oval at the rear, whereby the some may be inserted or withdrawn from the goods, when used in combination with the string and tag, in the mannor a.nd for the purposes set forth- In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th day of January, 1867.
