Description

@einen faire @sind @Hita JOHN B. WILLETT, 0F WEST MERIDEN, GNNECTIGUT.
Letters Patent No. 65,460, dated June 4, 1867.
IMPROVED PLATE-METER.
T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. WILLETT, of West Meriden, in the countyof New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new improvement iii-Plate-Lifter; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying` drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specication, and represent, in-
Figure I, a top view.
Figure 2, a side view; and in Figure 3, a sectional view.
This invention is designed for the purpose of holding hot plates or similar utensils, and termed a plate: lifter, and consists in the peculiar arrangement of three or more hooked arms attached to a lever, so that the hooks may he contracted or expanded to grasp the article; and to enable others to construct and use my improvement, I will proceed to describe thc same as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
vA is-the handle, formed from cast metal, its head, B, constructed in the form of'la bowl, as seen in figs. 2
and 3, through which, at equal distances, are passed arms C, more or less in number, and hinged to the end ofa lever, D, which saidlever has its fulcrum at a, the other end of the arm C forming hooks 1:, as in fig. 2, and the arms curved at the point where they pass through the head of the handle, so that by depressing the lever D, as denoted in red, g.-2, the hooks will be drawn in or contracted to the eictent also denoted in red, tig. 2.
The operation of my invention is as follows: With the hand hold of the handle, the thumb resting'upon the lever D, setthe hooks over the article to be raised, as denoted in fig. 2, and depress the lever until the hooks grasp the plate, then, holding the handle, the plate may be raised and removed at pleasure.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new anduseful, and desire-to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the handle A, thc lever I), and hooked arms C, (three or more,) constructed and operating substantially in the manner as herein set forth. i
