TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known 4that I, MYRON H. BECKWGRTH, of' Camden, in the county of Oneida, and State of New York, have invented a new and usefulImprovement in Corsets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part Aof this specication, in which-.-

Corsets have heretofore been made with a seam or join at the waist; but such corsets have been made either with the lacing under the arms or only at the hack. The nature of my said invention consists in a corset formed of two halves, to be laced or united at the front and hack, and each half formed withV two parts, cut out in the proper shape, and united together by a seam that comes at the Waist; and I apply a belt around over the seam to strengthen the corset at this part. i

A represents a corset, each half of which is made of tivo parts, B C, which are out out in the form shown in fig. 2 of the drawing, and sewed together so that the seam is in the centre of the waist and passing round the body, instead of up and down, as usual. One seam only is required, and consequently the Work of making the corset is greatly reduced; and furthermore, a corset is ,obtained'which is agreeable to wear, the seam being round the waist, where it is not liable to produce irritation or unequal pressure on the body of' the person wearing the corset. The seam isv strengthened by a belt, a, which is sewed into the same, and which is made of such material that itvis capable to sustain the strain to which otherwise the seam would be exposed. By these neans the seam is not liable to stretch, ,and the 'corset retains its shape for a long time,

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A belt applied over` and upon the seam around the waist part of the corset, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
