UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ONE-HALF TO ALBERT D. PETERS, OF SAME PLACE.
BANDAGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 660,874, dated October 30, 1900. Application filed January 23, 1900. Serial No. 2,429. (No model.)
T at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE VOELLNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elizaboth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bandages; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
My invention relates to the production of a :5 simple remedy for the cure of rheumatism, neuralgia, colds, la grippe, whooping-cough, and summer complaints of children.
My invention consists, essentially, in the impregnation of cotton-wadding or similar material with the fumes from anim or other similar resinous matter; and, furthermore, my invention consists in a cotton-Wadding impregnated with the fumes from anim mixed with powdered charcoal or any other suitable mixture of charcoal and some resinous material.
A principal object of my invention is to provideacleanandsimplearticleforthe purposes above stated, thereby overcoming all objec- 0 tions to wet or hot applications externally to the body of a person and avoiding the use of internal remedies.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which I have illustrated a sheet or piece of cotton-wadding which has been impregnated with the fumes from the resinous material and charcoal.
In carrying out my invention I take anim, aspecies of resin derived from the l-I'Jmemea courbarz'l, which is a soft and gumlike mass 40 and melts easily, diffusing white fumes having a-very pleasant odor. With the anim or other similar resinous matter in proper proportions l mix-powdered charcoal and set fire to this mixture; By suspending pieces of cotton-wadding or other suitable material over this smoldering mass of powdered charcoal and anim or other resinous product the fumes therefrom penetrate the cotton, which becomes thoroughly impregnated and is then go ready for packing in packages for sale and ,for outward application to the affected part of the human body.
The manner of applying the cotton-wadding to the affected part or parts is to bind it on with an outer bandage, and after twentyfour hours it is reversed and the same operation is repeated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. As a new article of manufacture, cotton impregnated with fumes of anim, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. As a new article of manufacture, cotton impregnated with fumes ofa mixture of anim r and charcoal, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of January, 1900.
