SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 663,473, dated December 11, 1900.

To all whom t may concern:

Beit known that I, RALPH SCHEUER, a citizen of the United States,and a residentof New York city,county and State of New York,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparel-Belts, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a belt more particularly adapted for mens wear and so constructed that it will be prevented from slipping and from exposing the upper edge of the trousers.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my im proved belt; Fig.

2, a longitudinal section through its overlapping front ends, showing it applied to a garment; and Fig. 3, a section on line 3 3, Fig. 2.

The letter a represents the body of a belt having the usual perforated end a', adapted to be engaged by the tongue t of the buckle l). From the end of the belt which carries the buckle b projects a flexible flap which is divided by two cuts into three parts d, c, and c'. The cuts should be formed to correspond, substantially, to the contour of the buckleframe b, so that when the buckle is closed the innermost ap or shield c will cover the garment within the buckle, While the outermost annular flap or shield CZ Will cover the gan mentaround or beyond the buckle. The central iiap c, which when projected forward would lie beneath the buckle, is turned backward, Fig. 2, so as to lie against the inner face of the belt back of the buckle. It coning e e', and the perforated end ct' of the belt is drawn over shield cl and under frame Z) to be engaged by the tongue b of the buckle. Th us the front edge of the overlapping garment-iiiesAA'is concealed Within and around the buckle-frame, while the belt is by the tab c held against displacement.

What I claim isl. A belt provided with a buckle and with a iiap projecting from one end thereof, and divided into an outer shield that surrounds the buckle-frame, and an inner shield that is inclosed by the buckle-frame, substantially as specified.

2. A belt provided with a buckle and with a iiap projecting from one end thereof and divided into an outer shield, an inner shield, and a central tab that is adapted to engage the trousers-fastening, substantially as specied. r
