UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'WALTER II. PERKINS, OF WVATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE IVATERBURY MFG. CO., OF SAME PLACE.
S H EET-M ETAL. CHAI N-STAY.
SEECIFEGATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 677,265, dated June 25, 1901.
Application filed April 22, 1901- Serial No. 56,915. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: posite points to receive the ring 4, while its 40 Be it known that I, WALTER H. PERKINS, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Sheet Metal Chain- Stays; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the numerals of reference marked thereon. to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, iii- Figure 1, a view, partly in section and partly in elevation, of one form which my improved sheet-metal chain-stay may assume; Fig. 2, a detached plan view of the base-plate; Fig. 3, a corresponding reverse plan view thereof.
My invention relates to'an improvement in chain-stays for use in washstands, bath-tubs, and in kindred situations, the object being to produce at a low cost for manufacture a simple, durable, and attractive article.
\Vith these ends in view my invention con sists in a sheet-metal chain-stay comprising a hollow sheet-metal body having a flaring base, a sheet-metal base-plate adapted to be applied to the said flaring base of the body and to be secured thereto, and a retaining rod or pin entered at one end into the said baseplate and secured thereto within the hollow locking-boss thereof.
In carrying outmy invention, as herein shown, I form in any desired manner a hollower edge is turned inwardly to form a flange 5.
My improved chain-stay also comprises a sheet-metal washer-like base-plate 6, which is centrally struck downward to form alarge square hollow locking-boss 7, designed to en ter a suitable hole or recess formed to receive it in the Washstand-slab or in some portion of the bath-tub fixture, whereby the stop is prevented from turning. This boss is cen- 5o trally perforated for the reception of the upperend of the threaded fastening-rod 8,which is furnished with a nut 9. The upper end of this rod is headed down, as at 10, within the hollow of the boss for being secured to the plate and anchored by means of a body of solder 11; but of courseI do not limit myself to any particular way of securing the pin 8 to the base-plate 6.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sheet-metal chain-stay, comprising a hollow sheet-metal body, having a flaring base,
a sheet-metal base-plate adapted to be apbase-plate and secured thereto within the hollow locking-boss thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib 35 low sheet-metal body 2, having a spreading ing witnesses. I
base. This body of course maybe varied in IVALTEE. H. PERKINS.
the character of its configuration within a Witnesses: very wide range of design. Near its apex it JOHN S. NEAGLE, is formed with perforations 3, located at op- F. B. NOBLE.
