SPEGIFICATIONfOrming part of Letters Patent No. 681,136, dated August 20, 190'1. Applicant filed Aprii 7, 1900. sain No. 12,038. ci@ man.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern.-
. .Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. PIDRIOK, `a-citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, New York, have invented an Im- 3 proved Fastener for Casket-Covers, of which the following is a specification, reference bel "ing had to the accompanying drawings.
` with my improved fastener. Spective view. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation.

view and a sectional elevation of the modification. side of the frame.
`A represents `the body of the casket, B the top or cover, and C my improved fastener.
D is a wooden frame surrounding the upper edgeof the body and serving to support a suitable packing E and to receive the end The margin of the cover B is bent over and stifened in any y cam J is represented as provided with the usual or preferred way, such as by the rod F, Fig. 3, the lower edge being beveled to secure a tight joint with the packing E.
`My improved fastener consists of the stem II and the cam J, which engages with the pin K, inserted in the stem. In Figs. 2 and 3 the threaded portion L, which engages with the nut N, attached to the lower side of the frame In Figs. 4. and the cam J is provided with a threaded portionV L', whichengages with a threaded opening in the bar D. The
Fig. 6 shows the nut attached to the stern I-I is provided at its upper end with an enlargement which bears on the upper surface of the catch I and which is squared or otherwise adapted for a suitable wrench or screw driver in closing the casket. The catch I being engaged over the margin of the top,l the turning of the stem causes the pin K to slide along over the surface of the cam, this movement drawing the catch I firmly down on the top and effectively closing the casket. When the pin K arrives at the end of the inclined portion or the slot of the cam, it causes the cam to revolve, and the threaded portion L or L thereof will turn, and iin case the cam has failed to draw the catch down sufcientlythis result will be accomplished by the further revolution of the cam. In Fig. 6 the nut N is shown as provided with the lip T, which is secured to the frame by one or more screws.
My improved fastener is simple, cheap, and effective, and one of its principal advantages is that it enables the undertaker to close the casket quickly and by a single turning movement of the instrument employed to screw` down the fastener.
I claim-- l. The combination of the frame D, the stem provided with the hook and pin, and the movable cam-piece having a spiral cam-surface provided with a limiting-shoulder and with a threaded extension.`
2. The combination of tho frame D, the stem provided with the hook and pin, the movable cam-piece having a spiral cam-surface provided with a limiting-shoulder and with a threaded extension, and the fixed nut.
WILLIAM I-I. PIDRICK.
