PATENT OFFICE.
ALONZO B. CONDE, OF DELMAR, NEW YORK.
REFLECTQ R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 682,602, dated September 17, 1901.
Application filed April 27, 1901. Serial No. 57,664. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALONZO B. CONDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Delmar, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide a shade or reflector adapted to be readily attached to or removed from a lamp andfolded compactly when not in use. Such object I accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a reflector embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is aplan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a holder detached from said reflector. Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on line 1 1 of Fig. 2.
As illustrated in the drawings, A represents a shade or reflector, which may be of any desired contour and is provided on its lower end with a hinge B, which is mounted upon the outer end of a supporting-arm O, which is preferably constructed of spring-wire doubled on itself and provided with curved overlapping inner ends cand offset extremities c to form a clasp or clamp adapted to be readily adjusted and secured to the neckor socket of a lamp. By means of the hinge B the shade or reflector may be folded against said supporting-arm O or arranged at the desired angle thereto.
A handle D is secured to the outer end of the supporting-arm O by means of lips d, which clamp the end of said supporting-arm. The handle D is also provided with a shoulder (1, which is adapted to bear against the lower portion of the reflector A and limit the backward movement or inclination of said reflector.
I prefer to form the holder D of sheet metal adapted to be bent slightly and vary to a lim ited extent the position of said shoulder and the inclination of the reflector when in contact therewith.
The handle D is secured to the supporting arm 0 independently of the shade or reflec tor A, so as to permit said arm to be attached to or removed from a lamp without handling the shade or reflector or without handling the spring-sections composing the supportingarm 0.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a supporting-arm of spring metal having curved inner ends adapted to form a clasp or clamp, of a reflector hinged to the outer end of said arm, and a handle attached to the outer end of said arm independently of said reflector and provided with a shoulder adapted to limit the back ward movement of said reflector, substan tially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALONZO B. OONDE.
