IVILLIS LELAND SHORT, OF BUTLER, MISSOURI.
VAGINAL SYRINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 687,441, dated November 26, 1901.
Application filed March 23, 1901. Serial No. 52,549. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIS LELAND SHORT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butler, in the county of Bates and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaginal Syringes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention has relation to improvements in vaginal syringes; and it consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the syringe. Fig. 2 is a middle vertical longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 8 is a transverse section on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. i is a front end view thereof, and Fig. 5 is a rear end view.
The object of my invention is to construct a vaginal syringe which shall be simple, durable, and thoroughly effective, capable of excluding the air from the parts being cleansed, one permitting adjustment as to depth of insertion, one capable of being readily taken apart and cleansed, and one possessing further and other advantages better apparent from a detailed description of the invention, which is as follows:
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents an outer cylindrical casing or cage whose forward portion is provided with a series of parallel peripheral depressions or channels 2, the rear ends thereof leading each to an opening 3, communicating with the interior of the casing. The rear portion of the casing is provided with a sliding or adjustable guard 4, the position of which along the casing determines the depth of insertion of the latter into the vagina. The inner passage of the casing is of uniform bore, there being simultaneously inserted thereinto the terminal perforated spray-tip 5 and the smooth cylindrical tight-fitting collar 6 of the spray-tube 7, the latter having a forward expanded or enlarged portion 7, fitting snugly the bore of the casing, the tube 7 being of a dimension so as to leave an annular passage between it and the walls of the casing to receive the discharge-water, the latter percolating through the openings 3 into said chamber and out through the drain-tube ,8, the latter being formed integrally with the casih g and located slightly beyond the adjacent end thereof. To insure a water-tight joint at said end, a disk 9 is passed over the projecting portion of the collar 6 and forced firmly against the end of the casing. The terminals of each of the tubes 7 and 8 are provided with enlarged heads 10 10, over which are passed rubber tubing or hose for conducting the douche into and from the parts to be cleansed, it being understood that the douche-waters are sprayed against the parts through the tip 5 and escape, asjalread y indicated, through the drain-tube S.
It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the material of which the syringe is constructed. Ifhe same may be metal, gutta-percha, or any other suitable material.
Having described my invention, what I claim is-- A vaginal syringe comprising an outer casing, a series of longitudinal peripheral channels formed along the forward part of the same, the casing having a series of openings leading from the inner ends of said channels and communicating with the interior of the casing, a spray-tube having a terminal spraytip, and an intermediate integral tight-fitting collar efiecting connection respectively with the inner walls of the opposite ends of the casing, and having an expanded portion fitting snugly the bore of the casing between the forward end thereof and the series of openings aforesaid, a portion of the collar projecting beyond said casing, a disk passed over said projecting portion of the collar and forced against the adjacent end of the casing to effect a tight =joint, an adjustable guard mounted on the casing, and a drain-tube formed integrally with the casing and located a suitable distance in advance of said disk, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
\VILLIS LELAND SHORT.
