UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUGENE J. MARGOTTE, or STOCKTON, KANSAS.
sYRu PV-PIY'ITCH 5R SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters 'Patent No. 700,524, dated May 20, 1902. Applioation filed January so. 1902. "S n uterine. o o model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, E GENE J. MARCOTTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the countyof Books and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syrup Pitche'rs,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in pitchers, and more particularly to that class commonly known as syrup-pitchers.
When syrup or other liquid is poured from a pitcher having the ordinary nose orspout" one or more drops of the liquid adhere to the spout or nose after the pouring ceases and drip and either run down and accumulate on the side of the pitcher under the spout or drop onto the table or other surface on which the pitcher is standing.
The object of my invention is to obviate this difficulty by providing-an antidrip spout or nose for a pitcher or-other vessel by which the contents of the pitcher or other vessel may be freely delivered in the act of pouring and at the same time prevent any exterior escape of the drippings by returning the same to the body of the pitcher or other vessel on' the closing of the lid thereof.
A further object is to provide a pitcher with an antidrip-spout which is exceedinglysimple and inexpensivein construction and very effective in use.
My invention consists in the severalfea tures and combination of features, as =m0re1' fully hereinafter described and-claimed.
Referring to the drawings, Figure '1' is a cehtral vertical section of a pitcher with my in-" vention applied thereto, the cover of same be ing shown as raised; Fig. 2, a planvie'w with a portion of the cover removed; Figs; 3 and'4,1
details.
In the drawings,in which like letters ofrefence denote like parts throughout the several I is a supplemental spout or nose pivoted within the nose of the pitcher by means of a pin J, said supplemental spout or nose being of a shape'to fit the inner contour of the nose 5 5 of the pitcher and being provided with a'la't+ erally-projecting lip or flange J on its upper edge adapted to rest on the upper edge of the nose F when the lid of the pitcher is raised.
K is an arm which extends upwardly from one side of said spout I, and L is a link pivotally attached thereto. A curved arm M, "comprising two parts N and O, is secured at one end to the inside of the lid of the pitcher and the opposite end is pivotally connected to the link L at the point P.
In use the lid is raised by means of the thumb-piece, which causes the outer end of the arm M to move upward, which moves the link L outward over the topof the nose F and swings the supplemental spout I into the nose F, and as this supplemental spout exactly fits the inner contour or surface of the nose F it does not form an obstruction or interfere in the least with the free use of the same, but practically presents a continuous unbroken surface. Simultaneously with the closing of the lid the outer end of the arm M will move downward, operate the link L, and swing the supplemental nose I out of the nose F and. 8e i t'u'rn it completely over on its pivot-pin, and thereby drains any liquid that may have accumulated thereon into the pitcher.
When itisdesired to clean the pitcher, it is only necessary *lto remove the neck by un+ screwing thesame. ,The pitcher may, how* eve be 'madejofone piece of material and the cover hinged on a removable pin Q, having a ring or button Rat one end, and in this event when itis'desired to clean the pitcher it is go only necessary to withdraw the pin and take the cover off.
I do not wish to be limited to the precise construction herein shown and described, as thesame maybe varied somewhati'without 5 departing-fromthe spiritfof :1ny{invention.
Having thus describedmy inventi0n,..vil 1at I claim to be new; and desire to protect by'Inetters Patent of the United States, is
1. A pitcher or other vessel provided with a Ice spout having a supplemental spout conforming to the spout in saidvessel and pivoted therein, and means for positively operating said supplemental spout, substantially as shown and described.
2. A pitcher or other vessel provided with a lid, a spout, a supplemental spout pivoted therein connected to and adapted to be operated by said lid, substantially as shown and described.
3. Apitcher or other vessel provided with a lid, a spout, a supplemental spout pivoted therein and connected to said lid by an arm and adapted to be automatically and simultaneously operated by the opening and clos .ing of said lid, substantially as shown and described.
4. Apitcher or other vessel provided with a spout, a supplemental spout pivoted therein having a flange adapted to rest on the top thereof, and means for operating said supplemental spout, substantially as shown and described.
5. Apitcher or other vessel provided with a lid, a spout, a supplemental spout pivoted therein having a flange adapted to rest on the top thereof, and means connecting said lid and supplemental spout, whereby when the lid is opened or closed thereby it simultaneously operates said spout, substantially as shown and described.
' 6. A pitcher or other vessel provided with a spout, a supplemental spout pivoted therein provided with an arm carrying a link, a lid provided with an arm the free end of whichis pivoted to said link, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EUGENE J. MARCOTTE.
