STOCK-FEEDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 714,557, dated November 25, 1902. Application filed June 21, 1902. Serial No. 112,650. No model- To all whom it may concern.-

With these objects in View the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and point ed out in the claims.

In the drawings,forn1ing a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stock-feeder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section view. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the detachable hopper, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a regulating-slide.

In carrying out my invention I employ a main frame A, consisting ofa base A, the end uprights A and the top frame A connecting the end uprights. This top frame A supports the funnel-shaped hopper B, saidhopper resting within the said frame and is'provided with a hinged cover B. This hopper is essentially in the form of an inverted pyramid and has a contracted discharge-opening 13 at its lower end. The lower portion of the hopper is contained within a box-like casing (1, which is secured to the innersides of the end uprights,and arranged within the said box-like casing and upon the base is a separating-cone D, upon which the food falls after passing through an opening B and is thereby distributed to the troughs E, arranged at the four sides of the box-like casing C, the lower edges of said casing 0 being elevated a short distance above the outer edges of the coneseparator D, thereby permitting the food to enter the trough E. Each trough is provided with a cover E, which is provided with an opening through which animals may gain access to the trough.

A cut-off slide F is arranged directly beneath the discharge end of the hopper and slides upon the guide-strips G, said cut-off being of such a length as to extend through the opposite sides of the casing 0, being thereby guided by the said casing O, the lower edge of the hopper, and the guide-strips G. This cut-off slide F has an opening E, which is intended to be brought into registerwith the discharge-opening B with the hopper B,thereby permitting the food to pass from the hopper through the cut-off slide and down upon the apex of the separating-cone D. By adjusting the slide the food can be directed to one side or the other, or it can be cut off completely, a suit-able hand-grip being provided at one end of the slide for the purpose of operating the same.

It will thus be seen that I provide an eX- ceedingly cheap and simple construction of stock-feeder by means of which stock can be fed to any or all of the troughs, and inasmuch as the hopper B is detachable, and likewise the cut-off slide G, it is obvious that the entire device can be quickly and easily cleaned when necessary by removing the said hopper and slide and cleaning them, and also the interior of the feeder.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

A stock-feeder comprising a main frame, a detachable funnel-shaped hopper located in said frame, a casing and a separating cone or pyramid, troughs arranged at the sides of the main frame, and a cut-off slide arranged between the lower end of the hopper and the upper end of the separator for the purpose specified.
