WELDLESS LINK.
SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 717,562, dated January 6, 1903. Application filed June 28, 1902- Serial No. 113,631. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY L. FERRIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Harvard, in the county of McHenry and State of Illinois, have invented certain In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view of my improved links as they appear in an ordinary chain, and Fig. 2 is a view of one link broken in two in order to show the curves thereof.
The wire of which the chain is composed .is of the usual type of which chains are constructed, the drawings being approximately full sized. The wire after being out off to the right length by any suitable means is bent back upon itself, forming two major bends or loops A A the main strand of the wire being designated by the, letter A and the ends of the wires coming together at the center of the link. The two ends are then carried toward the main strand A and around it, forming small loops B B. The loop B is then continued upward and into another loop 0, which encircles th e inner ends of both the loops A A binding them firmly together. This construction is clearly shown in the drawings and will be readily understood by reference thereto.
It will be seen that this construction gives a very handsome and a very symmetrical link. Furthermore, owing to certain matters connected with the machine which constructs it it can be made somewhat cheaper than can the chains at present on the market.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The weldless link comprising the two loops, A, A recurved upon the main strand of the link, the ends of said loops turned toward said main strand and carried about the main strand in two other loops, B, B, and one of said loops, B, B, continued to encircle the end of one of the main loops; substantially as described.
2. The weldless link comprising two loops recurved upon the main strand of the link, the ends of said loops carried back toward said main strand and about the same in two smaller loops, and one of said smaller loops continued to form a third loop encircling the adjacent wires of both of said main loops; substantially as described.
The weldless link comprising the two loops, A, A recurved upon the main strand of the link, the ends of the loops turned toward said main strand, one of said loops being carried about said main strand in a loop, B, and thence around adjacent wires of both of said main loops; substantially as described.
