Description

A. V. THOMAS. DISPLAY RACK.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 1, 1902.
PATENTED JAN. 27, 1903'.
C If. a I w UNTTE Sterne ALBERT V. THOMAS, OF PEORIA, ILLINOIS.
DISPLAY-RACK.
.aPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,060, dated January 27, 1903.
Application filed May 1,1902. Serial No. 105.663. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT V. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it. appertains to make and use the same.
Myinvention has reference to display-racks, and has for its object a stand for supporting and displaying boxes or cans containing varieties of pastry or other merchandise.
The invention consists, essentially, of a display-stand comprising main supports to which are attached wire supports forming rests and compartments in which may be carried and displayed varieties of merchandise, as above indicated.
The invention has for its further object a sliding rest suitably attached and capable of reciprocation in the framework of the stand, and connected with the outer rod of the slide is a brace for supporting the same, the lower end of which has connection with parallel braces and is arranged to lock itself with said braces when the slide has been extended.
That the invention may be more fully understood reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same.
In the drawings the stand is shown consisting of end supports or frame-pieces 1 and 2, standing vertically and being a continuation of each other, as shown. Spaced suitably apart from each other is shown a series of rods 1 2, having their opposite ends attached, respectively, to the end supports 1 1 and 2 2, and 3 indicates side brace-rods corresponding in position to the rods 1 2 and have their opposite ends attached to the supports 1 2. The rods 1 2 are braced or coupled with each other throughout their length by the horizontal parallel-arranged rods 3 4 5, and 6 represents vertically-disposed rods connecting the series of rods 2 and the top and central rods 1, and 6 refers to side supin such a manner as ports lying obliquely to the end supports 1 and 2 and have their free ends coupled with the same, as shown.
Referring now to what is termed the sliding rest, the same consists of the skeleton frame part 7, having its front portion lying parallel with the rods 1 and side port-ions lying parallel with the braces 4: and their free ends bent around a pair of the said braces, as at a, in such a manner that the same may be caused to slide thereon. 7 is a rod having its end coupled to the free ends of the part 7, and 7 represents braces coupled to the rod 7 and to the forward part of frame 7. These above-described parts designate the frame of the sliding rest.
The support and the means of sliding the rest will now be described. 1) represents short lengths of rods attached to the central rod 1 that its body may be suspended and lie parallel beneath the rod 1*, and upon the same and between the rods 1) and 1 rest and slide the side rods of the part 7 and the braces 7", as shown. 8 is a brace having its upper end attached about central to the rod 7, and its lower end extends down and passes between two rods 9, whose ends are attached to the rods 1 and 2 and the lower end of brace 8 is bent at right angles beneath one of the rods 9 to prevent the reach from being raised, and through the brace extends a pin 11, resting and sliding on the rods 9, and 10 is a depressed curved portion of the rods 9 adjacent to the rod 1, whereby when the rest isextended the pin 11 of the brace will slide along on the rods 9 and drop into the depressions 10 and lock the rest in such extended position.
As will be seen, the brace 6 together with the brace 8 and end braces form a series of compartments, in which may be placed a series of display-boxes containing pastry or other merchandise, the same to rest on the braces 3, 4, and 5. When it is desired to remove goods from any one of the boxes in the stand, the sliding rest is extended and a box removed from the stand and placed on the rest, when the goods therein may be easily removed, and when through with the box can be again replaced in the stand and the rest shoved back into its proper place in the stand,
this done by raising the lower end of the I forward frame, having a rest and a brace attached to' the forward portion of the rest, and the lower end of the brace having a sliding relation with parts of the stand, as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A display-stand, comprising a skeleton frame, having a series of compartments, the braces 4, a rest slidably connected with said braces, the parallel rods 9, the brace 8 connected with the slidable rest at its upper end and having a bearing and sliding relation with rods9, and means for locking the position of the brace when extended, as and for the purposes set forth.
3. In combination with parallel and transverse brace-rods of a display-stand, a rest formed of a wire frame having free ends coupled with parallel brace-rods to slide thereon, the rods b, and means for supporting the portion of the rest when extended, as and for the purposes set forth. Y
4. The herein described display stand, comprising the supports 1 and 2, the brace rods 1, 2 and the intermediate rods 3, 4 and 5, of a sliding rest supported in said stand and having coacting portions with braces 4 of the stand, rods 9, a support for the rest having its lower end slidably connected with the rods 9, and means whereby the support will automatically lock itself in position when the rest is extended, substantially as and for the purposes described.
5. A display rack or stand, consisting of main supports suitably braced, the bracerods 3, 4 and 5 forming shelves of said stand, and divided into compartments by suitable vertical Wires or supports, the sliding rest formed of the wires 7, 7, 7", the wire 7, coupled at a, ct, with wires 4, the rods 1), for the Wire 7, the rods 9, the brace 8 engaging the rod 7 havingits lower end provided with pins slidable on the rods 9, the rods 9 provided with depressions 10 to receive the pins, all substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT V. THOMAS.
