In Figure l is seen the catch in the window-sash.
In ,Figure 2, the various parts of the catch.
In the stile of the sash, an incline, a, is cut to receive the wedge b, the face oi' the wedge being on a line with the side c of the Window-frame. A lever-handle, el, has a slotted hole at the eu'd that passes through the wedge Zz, through which slot and Wedge a pin is put to connect the wedge and lever. The end of the level' fits in the hole e, which is rounded above and below the, lever to allow u. free action without lost motion.` The lever has a pin-fulcrum, f, in the stile of the sash. Upon the side of 'the 'hand-end of the lever a is a catch, z', corresponding to the ratch n, on one side of the socket m, the socket being inserted in 'the edge of thefstile in a mortise made through the stile to receive the lever d, the ratch and catch being` for the purpose of securing the wedge when tight. I
It will bel seen that in forcing `the wedge between the sash-stile and the window-frame, the sash can be kept at any desired height.
What 1 claim, and desire to secure, is-
The lever d and wedge 5, constructed, combined, and operated substantially in the manner and for tue purpose hereinabove set forth.
