@its rtebnle nimm in in tips: tttrrs ntrnt mit nnkiiig pnt ,of tige non.
TO ALL WHO IT MAY CONCERN:
4Be it known that I, JOHN WOLFE, of the city of Washington, in the District of Columbia., have invented a. certain new and useful Improvement in vliuper-lliles or Peper-Holders; und I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ond marks thereon, said drawings forming a part of this specification, and representing, by
Figure 1, n View in elevation of my improved holder, and by The seid rst figure showing the tile or holder when it is in its extended o nd open condition; and the eecondiigure showing it in its closed condition, clamping down the {ile of papers therein, AInv both of these figures the le of papers is indicated by the dark lines a a, and srnilarnnarks nud lettersare used in both iigures to indicate like ports. i
Y' The sides of this tile or holder are formed of-.bars b, pivoted as shown at e, and with the ends joined as at d,
in the monncr of what are usually denominated lazy-tongs. The figures of the drawings' show. tiv'o sets or series of these bars, but the numbers may be greater, to any extent that may be desirable and the bers may bc made of metal or any other suitable material, the strength and size being such as may bc regarded the most useful. To the lower ends of the bars b are aixed 'pltes e, as also to the upper ends of thepupper'bars, which plates, one or more, may have some ploy on the uniting pivots thereof, while the other plates may be rigidly attached to the bers l. From -the one-lower plate e, orthe strengthening-bmj' thereof, a rod or bar, g, passes, the one end of it being secured to one of .the plates, while the other end passes through a hole in the opposite plate, as indicated at L. From the strengthening-bnr ofthe upper plates, :1. likerod or bar, z', passes from the one pointj at which it is secured to the bar, through a. hole or space in the opposite bnr, as indicated et lc. A portion of this bari is toothed, as is sho'wn in both figures. A. latch or catch, l, fits into the teeth of the bar z'. This catch is shown by red marks as thrown up in iig. 2, and by the-yellow coloring in the same gure is shown down in the clamping position. V i
From this description of the construction of this holder or file, it will readily be seen thatit is extendedon V.
opening, and compressed on closing, and that it may be easily adjusted to different-sized tiles of pepers and indy be readily opened or closed, and when closed will securelyl hold the papers therein.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The paper-iile 'or holder, constructed and operated as herein recited. v This specification signed, this 16th doy ot' October, 1867. l
' JOHN WOLFE.
