DEVICE FOR HOLDING PAINT-BUCKETS IN PERMANENT POSITION ON THE ROOFS OF BUILDINGS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 753,942, dated March 8, 1904.

Be it known that I, LUTHER WALLACE, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Southport, Marion county, in the State of Indiana, haveinvented a certain new and useful Device for Holding Paint-Buckets and for Preventing the Same from Sliding or Tipping, of which the following is a specification, and which is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

The object of the present invention is to prevent the sliding or tipping of paint-buckets, especially when the same are used on roofs of houses or upon platforms swung from the sides of a house which are liable to be in tilted position.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the present invention, Figure 1 is a perspec tive of the holder with a bucket therein. Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the holder without the bucket. Fig. 3 is a detail of the bandsecuring means. Fig. 4 is a detail view showa ing in elevation the larger half of the securing-band. Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the shorter band and its attached parts.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the bucket A is held on the roof B during the painting of the roof by means of the securing-bands C and J, which pass around the same and are adapted to securely engage the bucket. Upon the larger portion of the securing means (the band C) are secured the uprights or legs D D, which extend downwardly therefrom and at an angle thereto. These uprights have their lower ends pointed for the purpose of engaging the roof more securely to hold the bucket in place. At one end of the band C there is an outwardly-extending straight portion having an aperture K formed therein, while at the other end of the band there is carried a slidable ring or band H, which is adjustable along this band C. Upon this portion of the band C is also formed an outwardly-projecting lug I, which serves as a securing means for the second half of the securing meansband J. This lug further provides a guard to prevent the loss of the ring H from the band C.

which is adapted to engage in the aperture K ofthe band C when the device is in operative position-.- To secure the band C and J as tightly around the bucket as desired, there is provided the thumb-screw G, which engages the screw-threaded portion E of the rod E to bind the parts together upon the turning of i the same.

The operation of the device is clearly under stood from this foregoing description, but briefly consists in first securing the bands C and J together by means of the stud I and apertures M, together with the lockingband H, at such an adjusted position as to approximate the circumference of the bucket to be held in the device. Upon placing the bucket within the bands the clamping-rod E, by means of the member G, is then drawn into the aperture K until the bands arebrought into the desired secure engagement with the bucket. The legs or uprights D D then hold, by their engagement with the roof, the bucket and the whole device in position to prevent the tipping or sliding of the bucket.

While certain specific details of construction have been set out in the foregoing descrip tion, yet I do not wish to be limited entirely thereto, as many changes may be wrought in the structure without departing from the spirit of my invention. 7

What I do claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-

1.
