Be it known that 1', WALTER T. S'rALL, of Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Ball Trousers, of which the followingl is a specification.

This invention relates to trousers for athletic purposes, and has particular reference to the structure of the knee-pads of garments known as foot-ball trousers.

The object of the invention is to provide a light and well-litting garment of the character described having a concave-convex elastic pad designed to fit and thoroughly protect the knee of the wearer.

The invention consists in the construction of the garment, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.

Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l represents a perspective view of a pair of foot-ball trousers embodying my invention and illustrated in ,the position for the use of such trousers by a wearer. Fig. 2 represents asection on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a detail elevation of the pad detached and before its Fig. 4. represents an elevation of the completed pad detached and showing also a supplemental pad which may be employed. Fig. 5 is a detail enlarged view representing the knee portion of the garment, but with a portion of the pad-cover broken away to show the interior structure.

convex formation to the pad, as represented in Fig. 2. To the central portion of the pad b there is preferably secured a supplemental inner pad t.

The elastic pad after it has been given its concavo-convex shape is placed against the inner surface of the material a, crossing the 5o opening betweenthe tongues a', so that the convex side of the pad defiects the tongues of the material which are around the opening out of the normal plane of said material. l then secure to the outer surface of the garment over the openings in the knees, as by stitches Z and covers c, said covers serving to protect the tongues a' and the pads Z). The covers c may be suitably formed so that they will sufliciently bulge to accommodate the 6o convex surface of the pad and the deflected tongues of the material. As indicated in Fig. 5, said covers may consist of four sections of material, so cut and sewed together at c as to t over the openings and the pads.

It will be observed that by this construction I have provided a strong and durable football trousers having' a knee pad which is thoroughly protected externally and is internally soft and yielding and shaped to lit the knee of the wearer.

I claim"- A garment having portions slitted to form openings, coneavo-convex pads secured to the inner surface of the material with their con- Vex sides derlecting the tongues of material around the openings out of the normal plane of said material, and covers secured over the said openings to protect them and the pads.
