Description

gutter game gaunt @ffirr.
M. PIERCE; 0F WINONA, MINNESOTL,
Letters Patent .No. 77,315, dated April 28, 1868.
mrnovnn otornss-wnmenn.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, M.-P1nRoE, of Winona, in the county of Winona, and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in OIothes -Wringers; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side view of a clothes-wringer made according to the present invention, and
Figure 2 a transverse vertical section, taken in the plane of the line a: a, fig. 1.
Similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts. 1 A, in the drawings, represents the ordinary frame ofithe wringer. This frame consists of two parallel upright side-pieces, B, joined together by cross-rails G in any suitable manner.
Between these side-pieces B, the wringing-rollers D, made of any suitable material, are arranged, the oneabcve the other, with the upper one somewhat larger in diameter than the lower.
These rollers D, by their shafts E, pass through the side-pieces B, in which they are arranged to turn, an are hung, the shaft of the lower roller in vertical slotted bearings.
Each shaft of the rollers D is extended at one end, but upon opposite sides of the frame A, in each case, to receive a crank-handle, whereby the rollers can be turned with greater ease by one or more persons.
The shaft to the lower rol1er, at each end outside of the frame A, is hung in the vertical slots of the upright pieces G, that by such slots pass over the upper roller-shafts, and are extended above they top of. the frame A, where they are joined together by a cross-bar, H.
Between this cross-bar H and the upper cross-bar I of the main frame A, two wooden springs, J, are arranged to bear the one upon the other, and to raise the yoke-frame G H either 'more or less, according as the thumb-screw K is turned either out or in, and thus the wringing-rollers adjusted or regulated for a greater or lesser amount of pressure upon the clothes to be wrung in the machine.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is--
1. The yoke-frame G H applied to the main frame A, and carrying lower roller of machine, substantially as described.
2. Extending the shaft-F ofthe upper roller D at one side of the wringer, and the shaft E of lower roller D at the other, so that a crank-handle may be applied to one or both at the same time, substantially as described,
and for the purposes specified. v
3. The wooden spring J, when constructed, arranged, and applied substantially as .and for the purpose described.
4. I- claim making the upper roller Def larger diameter than the lower roller, when the shafts of both rollers are extended and in opposite directions, so that the power may be applied to the smaller roller, when it is only desired to use one crank, substantially as described and represented.
M.- PIERCE.
