Description

No. 784,113. PATENTED MAR. '7, 1905. J. H. MINER.
SAW.
APPLIOATION FILED MAY 4, 1904.
UNITED STATES Patented March '7, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
, SAW.
SPECIFICATION forming part or Letters Patent N 0. 784,113, dated March '7, 1905.
Application filed May 4:, 1904. Serial No. 206,330.
1'!) (0M ll/71.0177, it Ina/y concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs HENRY MINER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lumberton, Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saws, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in saws, and more particularly to that class of saw embodying in its construction removable and interchangeable teeth.
1 have aimed to provide means which may be readily applied to the saw to prevent the wearing of the throat of the tooth which will prevent the tension of the saw being changed by obviating wear at the edge of the saw, and l have also aimed to so construct said means as to avoid unnecessary fastening devices and make replacement easy and inexpensive.
.The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a sufiicient portion of a saw to illustrate the invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view.
.In the drawings, the ordinal 3 indicates the body of the saw, and 4 the removable teeth. These may be retained in the tooth-sockets in any desired manner-as, for instance, by a locking pin or key 5; but as this forms no part of the present invention a more detailed description is deemed unnecessary.
The ordinal 6 indicates a lining-spring which extends, as shown, around the throat of the tooth and protects it from wear. The forward end 7 is flush with the back edge of the tooth-body, and l. have found that each spring may be held in a simple and effective manner by providing an overhanging lug or projecof a hook-shaped projection on said tooth overhanging the end of said lining-spring and re taining the same in place, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
