To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILHELM LEOPOLD, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Stuttgart, Germany, have invented a Letter-Card, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to a particular form and arrangement of a closing-flap for lettercards.
For a single sheet of note-paper the closing-flap is disposed upon only one of the four sides of the sheet of note-paper along one of the shorter ones. When it is required for a double or triple sheet of note-paper, the closing-flap occupies only the half or the third of the length of that side.
As seen from the annexed drawing, the sheet of paper g it .9 p is furnished with a band a g 10f, which may be torn off. This band is also provided with a gummed flap a?) e (Z corresponding to the width of the notepaper when folded. This flap, after the letter is folded, is bent over and stuck upon the band a g 70 f, folded with the letter and constituting the extension thereof.
The letter is folded in the following manner: The sheet is first folded along the line 6 0, to be then folded over the side opposite to that intended to receive the address, then along lines on 72. 0 and aid. Finally, one of the lateral portions of the letter is inserted under the other by causing lg e to slide under 0 Z zf. The letter is then closed in the usual way by means of the gummed flap to Z) 0 (Z and will then assume the shape shown by the letters cm a (Z. The sheet of note-paper is preferably perforated along the line r 7': to facilitate tearing off the closing. Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a letter-card a main body having the form of an ordinary letter-sheet and adapted to be folded first from below upon the upper half and then from the left to the right and from the right to the left upon the middle portion, the side parts thus produced being intended to be inserted one between the other, a band detaehably connected to the upper edge of the main body and adapted to be folded with the latter from the left to the right and from the right to the left upon its middle portion, and a gummed flap secured to the middle portion of the said detachable band and adapted to be folded and stuck upon the closing-band when the letter-card is folded, substantially as and for the purpose described.
