Description

. e i r @arten taies @anni ,fitte Letters Patent No. 80,415, dated July 28, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT GARD-RACES.
@te tigebnle retract tu it tlgese tetters tteut zmr making aart nf tige annu.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, MirCHEL LEP?, of the city and county of Albany, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in the Manner of Constructing Card-Racks, whereby they can be made lighter, and their cards may be more readily arranged and better preserved; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a fu'l-l andexact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference'marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view. Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross-section, with an outer frame.
Figure 3 Vis a longitudinal cross4section of card-rack.
Figure 4 is a perpendicularsection, with an o uter frame.
Figure` 5 is a. perpendicular section of card-rack.
The same letters refer to like parts. v
The nature of my invention consists ofa rack, constructed of wood or any other suitablc'material, arranged as herein described. i
I placeat suitable distances apart a number of thin slats, (tive-eighths or three-quarters of an inch wide, and about one-quarter of an inchthick, called steadying-slats,) a a a a, figs. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and are placed with their at'sides towards the fron tand back, and are intended to steady the cards .s s, by4 preventing them from being canted to either side. Midway between these steadying-slats a a, I pla-ce the holding-slats b b b b, with their edges standing front and back, and 'their back edges lush with the back sides olf the slats a a. In the holdingslats b b are cut, at suitable distances apart, the notches o o o o, figs. 1, 4, 5., on an angle of twenty degrees to forty-tive degrees, and to a depth that would leave the Slat uncut on its back edge to a depth equal to the thickness of the steadying-slats a a. The slats a and b are held in their places by the slat c\vhich forms the top` of the rack-iframe. Thisslat c rests on the slats a and b, and is secured by brads. The sides of the frame are, formed by the slats c c, and project above-the steadying-slats a a, Vto which they are fastened, (figs. 2 and The lower sidc of the frame is a wider slat, e, (Iigs. 4 and 5,) fastened to the front ofthe slats a and l, which holds the whole rack stift" and rm. When the cards s s s are placed in the notches o 0.0,' figs. 1 and 4, their bottom edges rest on the steadying-slats a a a, at their corners, and are-held nt' an angle, and can bc readily distinguished, and withdrawn atpleasurc.
I do not claim thefholding-slat 6, with its `notches o o, as they have been used, but
What I claim 4as my invention,v and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The steadying-slat a, in combination with the holding-slut b, and thc rack-frame c c' and e, constructed substantially as set forth, for the 'purpose herein described. ,l
M. LE/PP.
