WILLIAM G. SCHNEIDER, OF LIVERPOOL, OHIO.
S ASH-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
Application filed Jan ary 24, 1906- Serial No. 297,631.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Liverpool, in the county of Medina, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to sash fasteners and has for its object to provide a simple, durable and efficient device of this character which may be operated from any convenient point.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a plan view of a portion of the meeting rails of the sashes of a window showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the said rails and showing a side elevation of the invention.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 denotes the upper rail of the lower sash of the window and 6 the lower rail of the upper sash thereof. Secured to the rail 5 is a plate 7 and pivoted to the said plate is a latch 8, the said latch being mounted for swinging movement across said plate. The plate 7 is preferably provided with beveled edges and extending upwardly from one of the beveled edges of the plate is a lug 9 from the inner face of which projects a stud 10 over which is engaged one end of a spring 11 which has its other end engaged with a stud 12 formed on the opposing face of the latch 8. Extending upwardly from the plate 7 is a stop-pin 13 against which the latch S is normally held by means of the spring 11.
Secured to the lower rail 6 of the upper sash is a keeper 14 including an attaching plate and a keeper 15 which extends upwardly from said attaching plate and is provided with an inclined upper edge 16 and which has one of its side edges notched as at 17 to receive the outer end of the latch 8, the said latch being adapted to ride along the inclined upper face 16 of the keeper 15 against the tension of the spring 10 and to seat in the notch 17 in the said keeper. Formed on the same side of the latch 8 with the stud 12 is an aperturcd car 18 to which is attached one end of a cord 19 which cord extends through aperturcd cars 20 formed upon the beveled edges of the plate 7 at opposite corners upon one side thereof. The cord 19 maybe extended to any suitable point upon the window and may be used to release the latch S from its keeper 14.
What is claimed is:
A device of the class described comprising a base plate. a latch arranged upon the plate, eye members formed upon the plate at the corners thereof, and a cord connected with the latch and engaged through the eyes.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM G. SCHNEIDER.
Witnesses MARY C. Woon, D. F. Wooo.
