In order. to un erstand Athe operation of the invention'reference should be, had to lo Figs. 2 to 18, inclusive, in which are illustrated the connections of the leads'to the high voltage Winding'for obtaining a variety vof voltages.
In Fi 2 terminals 29 and 30 are connect ed toget er, also, as are terminals 35 and 36,' and terminals 40 and 41, all of the high voltage 'winding beinuthen in series andthe vo tage of the Win g being the highest obtainable.
InFig. 3, the connections remain the same exce t that terminal35is connected to termin 39 instead of to terminalf36, a section. of the coil 6 being thereby removed from the circuit and the Avoltage of the Winding being 4corres ondingly reduced. In 4 terminal 41 is connected to terminal 43, the connections :otherwise remainthe same 'as in Fig. 3. A ortion of the f coils 17 'is thenfexcluded from t e circuit and the voltage of:the winding spondingly reduced. It will then be seen from Fig. 1l thatthe portion vof the coil5 Arincluded between terminals -35' and`38 is of greater length than the portion ,of the coil 6 included between terminals 36 and 39, and that the portion of the eoil '18 included between terminals- 41 and 44 is of greater length than the portion of the coil 17 included between terminals -and 43. In order that successive steps 'inovoltage may -18 .that mayr be removed from circuit should be', respectively,- of twice 'the active length of the parts of the coils-6 andl' that may be removed fronithe circuit. Thus, it will be understood that with' the connections of Fig. 5, a lower voltage is obtained than with t'he connections of Fig. 4.- In Fig. 6 por! ions of the coils 5 and 18 are excluded from the circuit since terminals 40 and 44 are connected together, and 1n Fi s. 7 and 8 portions of the coils 6 and 17 are a o res ectively excluded from thepircugit, since, in ig. 7, terminals 38 and1 39. are connected f together while, in Fig. 8,' terminals 4 3 and 44 so are connected together, 'corresponding reductions in the voltage being' thus effected. l In Fig. 9 terminals 30 and 33 upon the terminal block 26 are connected together, as are alsoterminals 38 and 39 upon the block 37, and terminals 4U" and 44 upon the block is again corre-A be provided, the portions of the* coils 5' and' 42,' portions of the coils, 6, 10, and 18 and all of the' coil llbeing' thereby excluded 'from thecilcuit.
