Description

L jl J/{Jf @M No. 896,309. PATENTED AUG. 18, 1908. E. M. MAIN.
THREAD CUTTING TEMPLE.
APPLICATION FILED JULYlS, 1907.
WITNESSES INVENTOI? ATTORNEYS,
UNlTED s'raa ns PATENT OFFICE.
ELVIN MARBLE MAIN, OF BRUNSWICK, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO DRAPER COMPANY, OF-HOPE- DALE, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MAINE.
THREAD-CUTTING TEMPLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 18, 1908.
To all whom 22 may concern:
Be it known that I, ELvIN M. MAIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brunswick, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Thread-Cutting Temple, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to automatic looms in which the filling is supplied to the shuttle in the shuttle box while the'loom is in operation.
The ob'ect of the invention is to'provide anew and improved thread-cutting temple, arranged to insure prompt andune'rring cut ting of the filling end, to prevent the same from becoming entangled with the subsequent shots of the filling and spoiling the appearance of the fabric.
The inventionconsists of novel features and arts and combinations of the same, wh1c will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed-out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar characters of reference indicate cor-- res onding parts in both views.
igure 1 is a plan view of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, part of the stand being shown in section.
The stand A of the temple is secured in the usual manner to the breast .beam of the loom,
and on the said stand A is mounted to slide G for the passage of the filling, as l-ainly indicated in Fig. 2. Onto the face 0 the outer side E abuts the cutting edge of'a knife blade H, adjustably secured by screws I to the stand A, the said screws 1 passing through an elongated slot H formed in the knife blade H. Now when the temple is 'in the normal position of' rest-as shown in the drawings then the cutting edge of the knife blade H extends somewhat in the rear, but
, in the path of the eye G, and when the lay D actuates the shank B by engaging the heel D, then the eye'G is carried past. the cutting edge of the fixed knife blade H, and conseqluently any. filling end extending through t 1e eye G is cut off to prevent this filling end from becoming entangled insubsequent shots.
By the arrangement described a very simple means is provided for unerr'ingly and promptly cutting off the filling end.
In case the cuttingedge of the knife blade becomes dull, the said knife blade H canbe readily removed and its cutting edge sharpened, and then replaced and properly adjusted relative tothe eye G, to insure proper cutting of the filling end.
It will be seen by reference to the drawings that the cutting edge of the fixed knife blade is inclined, to cut the filling end with a shearing cut when the shank B is'actuated by the lay, as previously explained.
The casing, E may be screwed or brazed on the shank B, and the outer side E is prefer-. ably'hard'ened to properly work in conjunction with the cutting edge of the knife blade H, as above described.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A thread-cutting temple comprising a stand, a movable shank having a casing and I a roller therein, the casing having. an eye for the assage of the filling, and a knife blade .fixe on the said stand and having its cutting casing at the eye, to cut off. the filling end. 2. A thread cutting temple, comprising a .ed'ge operating in conjunction with the said stand, a movable shankhaving a casing and a roller therein, the casinghaving an eye for the passage of the filling, aknife blade having a longitudinal slot, and having its cutting edge operating in conjunction with the sale casing at the eye to cut off the filling end, and set screws traversing the slot and engaging the, stand for adjustably securing the knife thereon.
fixedly mounted onthe stand, and having I 3. A thread cutting temple comprising a. stand, a spring cont'rolled shank movably, -mounted thereon. and carrying a casing havits cutting edge cooperating with the casing with the said movable member at the said 10 adjacent the filling passage, movement of the passage to cut off the-filling end.
