fr. J. Humm). ADJUSTABLE FRAME.
LPPLIOLTIOI FILED JAUG` 26, 1907 UMTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS J. HARFORD, OF JERSEY CIT-Y, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO J'. I. BAMBERGEIL & CO., A CORPORATION QF NEW YURK.
Specication'o! Lettera Patent..
. Patented. Sept. 8, 1908.
Application fled. August 26, 19(17.' Serial No. 390,219.
To all 'wilma "it may'clnwvu Be it known that i, TnoMAs J. Hnuronn, a citizen of the United States, residing,r at Jersey City, in the county of lludson and Sta-te of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjusiabe F rames, ol' which the following is a specilicatxon. v f
This invention relates to adjustable frames,
lo and more irrticularly to `frames adapted to supporta lace panel.
The invention has'or its object the production of a Iraine which is adjustable and adapted to stretch lace curtains such as la are used extensively in hotel windows and -vestihule doors of private houses.
.A further object of the invention is to provide an adjustable frame which may he contracted or expanded both .vertically and 2o ltransversely, and to construct the saine in such a inanmirthat theends or edges of the curtain will he entirely i-.oncealedlroni-vimv tlmrehy giving,r a neat and attractive appear ance to the frame.
A still further object of the invention is to provide en adjhstahle frame of the character above dcscrihed, and to construct the same in sin-.h a nimmer that thepmel placed thereupon can be centered with geometrical ac-` cnracy as the adjustment makes it possible to get every line in the net perfectly straight.
While l have shown and dvseriliednxy adjustable frame as applied to window or. door panels, l desire 1t to he distinctively understoml that it may he used hy slight alterationsv which are entirely within the scope of my invention, for various other purposes, such as embroidery frames, screens, sieves, etc. W ith these ends in view, theinvention consists in certain component and coperative parts, and in the novel manner of eombination and arrangement of said parts, all of which will be hereinafter more fully de- 4 5 scribed and specifically pointed out in the appendedclaims.V i A in the drawings forming Lpart' of this speeilication: Figure Lis-aide elevation of a window frame, illustrating .my improved 5.0 'adjustable frame as applied, Fig. 2, is a seetional view, and Fig. 3, is s detailed view, illustrating the telescopic'side sections.
Referring by numerals tothe drwings, 1
represents a 1' rame of the usual type such as are employed in windows. Secured upon said frame in' any desirable manner is my nnproved adjustable frame 2 consisting of four corresponding` right angular pieces 3, which are formed with a. lla-t hase fl, and a. curved fece 5, which extends over thel Vedge of the hase 4 and is provided with a series of teeth 6. One leg of the angular piece is somewhat smaller than the other, and is provided with a locking,r nica-ns 7, adapted to engage a slot S in the larger leg in one of the corresponding angular pieces which telescopes the same.
lt will he readily seen that when the i'ou'i angular pieces are assembled that it produces a frame which may he adjusted either verti- I cally or laterally and securely locked in any desired position, and further that a traine or panel mounted thermlpon hy slippin,r the .meshes approximately nearthe edge over the teeth may he stretched in any desired direction and the ends entirely hidden 1' rom view by trucking the same between the base and curved faceof/lhfangular pieces.
I desire-vit to he nndmstood thatd ..o not limit myself to the exact details olii-.unstruction, as various minor changes may he resorted to without sacrificing any ol' tluI principlcsor xulvantages o this invention.
Having thus descrilmd the various features of my invention, what l cla-ini as new and desire to secure hy Letters Patent is:
l. ln an adjustable frame, four, (-.orres aiding angular sections, each section consisting of a. hase having a flange which is curved-over said hase and provided upon its edge with a. series' of teeth, of telescopic con.
neetionsbetween the said sectiinsx and means for locking the said telescopic connections together, suhstantially as specilied.
2. In an adjustable fra-me, correslmmling telescopic sections, each section lic-mg pro' vided with a locking means, the said sections consisting. of a flat hase having a llange winch 1s -curved over the base and provided with :..serics of teeth 'adjaeent'to the free edge of the' base and a channel or groove formed by the said flange and hase, substantixlly as 4shown and for the pin )ose specified.
