To all @cham fit may concern v Be it known that I, Lewis PRESTON, of Elizabeth Port, in the county of Union, in the State of N ew Jersey, have invented a new and improved Spring Door- But; and `I do hereby declare that the following isa full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference thereon.

My invention, which is designed as an improvement ou the patent of T. Fredericks, consists in the arrangement of devices to -put in and take out the spring after the but has been adjusted to the door; and it also provides that the slack of the spring, as it stretches, may be taken up.

The case of the but is leftopen, at the edge of the leaves, and either end of the case is provided, on the inside, with a shoulder, 0, with one or more notches, n, in which the rods D D, upon which the rubber E is placed, are made to rest.

The' but is rst attached to the door, and the rubber is slipped on the rods, and with a tool, like that in the drawings, (see Figure 4,) the rods are put in place in the notches, and, if the rubber becomes too loose, by

lthe same means, the rods are raised to a higher notch, l

and -it is thereby tightened. v

This invention is of especial value, as it allows, what is often desirable, that the spring may at pleasure be detached from the door, which cannot be done with the devices of Fredericks.

I'claim the rods D D, the'shoulder O, and notches n, when used in combination with the but B and spring E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
