ELISHA T. JARRETT, OF OHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE.
SAD-IRON SUPPORT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISHA T. JAERETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chattanooga, in the county of Hamilton and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sad-Iron Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in sad iron supports, which are adapted to be attached to basket grates, and it can be applied to the ordinary grate of a stove.
The object of the invention is to provide a shelf which is adjustable along the supporting means, whereby the irons can be brought in closer contact with the bed of the fire.
The invention relates to certain other novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view and Fig. 2 is a view of the supporting means.
A, A represent two parallel rods having hooked ends, 1, 1 and their lower ends are connected together by means of a bar 2, which extends outwardly from the rods in the same direction as the hooked portions. The outer surfaces of the rods are provided with notches 3, 3. A shelf 4 having openings 5, 5 is received over the rods A, A and adapted to be held in the notches 3, 3. Braces 6, 6 are connected to the shelf, which in turn have openings 7, 7, which pass over the rods, whereby, the shelf is held in a level position and also tending to form a rigid sup- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 31, 1907.
Patented Dec. 22, 1908.
Serial No. 408,727.
port for the shelf. The hooked ends 1, 1 are passed over the top of the grate basket or grate bars, and the lower portion of the rods or bar 2 is adapted to rest against the grate bars thereby keeping the shelf from resting on the grate bars, and the shelf can be adjusted to any height or lowered to any position on the rods A, A by simply sliding it up or down on the rods to the desired notches.
It will be seen that I have provided a very simple device which can be used for heating sad irons and the like and one which can be manufactured at a very small cost.
It is evident that slight alterations might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new 'and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sad iron support for grates and the like, comprising hooked rods, having notches thereon, a shelf adjustably supported on the rods, said rods connected at their lower ends and adapted to bear against the grate for holding the shelf out of contact therewith.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELISHA T. JARRETT.
