DEPOSIT AND COLLECTION REGEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 1909.
' Application filed Iune 11, 1908. SonialN'o. 37,905.
ceries, eta, having a door which opens to the outside, and another door which opens to the inside'of the building, the outside door being so arranged that when once closed it is auto matieally locked and cannot be opened again from the outside until the inner door is opened, and when the inner door is closed'the locking mechanism of the outer door is automatically reset.
The invention is illustrated in the accom-' panyi-ng drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing both doors open. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional viewsshowing the parts in diflerent positions.
4 is a section of a modification. eferring specifically to the drawings, it will be. seen that the device consists of a box or frame A which is open at its front and rear ends and carries a 'door B opening to the inside of the building. This box is mounted to slide u and down between vertical guide strips secured to the wall W on the inside thereof. The strips have guide grooves receiving tongues p on the side walls of the box. In the wall W of the building is an opening fitted with a door 0 which is hinged to said wallvand is adapted to close the open front end of the box. The last mentioned door carries a latch M which is engageable with a' plate D.
In the front edge of one of the side walls of the box is a recess 1' in which is pivoted at H, a trig er it having one of its ends hookshape ,as indicated at R, to en age a notch J in one of the strips P.- The ot er end G of the looking the trigger is. in thepath of a pin F projecting from the back of the door C, the parts being so arrangedthat when the pin strikes the trig er, the latter swings on its pivot,
and its ooked end is disengaged from the notch J.
The door B. carries a roller T which is adapted to travel on an incline V secured to one of the strips P. The incline is so located that the roller travels u the same when the door B is o ene'd and downthe same when it is close and as the door isfixed to the box A, it will be seen that the box will be raised when the door is opened, and lowered when it is closed.
The parts herein described operate as. follows: Let it be assumed that the door C is closed and lockedby the latch M, and that the door B is ready to be shut. .The closing of the door B allows the oox A to dro I a little and rest with the plate D on the latch E. Now, if the .door C is o ened, it with.
draws the latch E from on or the plate D and lets the box A drop'slightly, whereby the hooked end R of the trigger h engages the notch J. This sup orts the box A in position to receive the ottle of milk, groceries, or other articles, andwhen the same have been closed. W on the door swings shut the latchE comes abovethe plate D, and the pin strikes the 'tri ger h, causing it to swing on its pivot and .toiunhook from the notch J, whereby theboxA is released and itthereu on drops down, causing the in L to enter t e hole in the lug K, thus loc ing the door 6 and preventing it from being again opened unti the inside door .B has been operated to raise the box A and reset the mechanism. Whenthe door BJ is swung open the roller T travels up the incline V and thus elevates the box A, whereby the piin L is withdrawn from the hole in the lug I As the box rises, the plate D lifts the latch E and, in passing, allows the latter to drop back ready to engage the plate D when the box A descends with the closing of the door B, already referred to. This completes the cycle of movements and the door C is now again unlocked and the box is ready to receive the goods.
laced in the box the door '0 is Fig. 2 shows the position'of the parts when mechanism has been reset and the box A is ready. to'receive the goods, and
Fig. 8 shows the door C closed and locked.
the modified form shown in Fig. 4 the --leasin said lock.
de osit and collection receptacle provided with outer and inner doors, an automatic lock for the outer door, engageable when the door is closed, means operated by theppening movement of the inner door to release the lock, and by its closing movement toset the lock to reengage the outer door when it is again closed.
3. A deposit and collection receptacle comprising a' support, a box slidably mounted tierein, a door for the box connected to the support, a lock for the door operated by raising or lowerin the box, means for raising the box, to re ease the lock, and means for releasing the box when the door is closed, to allow the box to drop and cause the lock to fasten.
4. A deposit and collection receptacle com rising a support, a box slidably mounted t ierein, a door for the box connected to the support, locking means for the door adapted to lock the same when the box is lowered, and to unlock the same when it is elevated, a catch carried by the box and en-' gaging the support to hold the box in raised position, and a device carried by the door.
and engaging the catch to release the same when the door is closed.
5. A deposit and collection receptacle coniprising a support, a box slidably inount-.
ed therein, a pair of doors for the box, one of said doors being-connected to the sup ort, locking means for the last mentioned oor, adapted to lock the same when the box is lowered and to release the same when it is elevated, means for holding the box in elevated )osition, means for releasingthe box when t 1e last mentioned door is closed, and
means o erated by the other door for elevating tie box.
6. A deposit and collection receptacle comprising a support, a box slidably mounted therein, a pair of doors for the box, one of said doors being connected to the support,
locking means for the last mentioned door adapted to engage the sa'nie when the box is lowered and to release the same when it is elevated, means for holding the box in elevated position, means for releasing the box when the last mentioned door is closed, to
allow the box to drop, and means operated by the other door for elevatin the box to open the lock and to reset the ox.
7. A deposit and collection receptacle comprising a support, a box' slidably mounted therein, a pair of doors for the box, one of said doors being connected to the su port, locking means for the last mentione door adapted to engage the same when the box is lowered and to release the same when it is elevated, means for holding the box in elevated position, means for releasing the box when the last mentioned door is closed, means-o erated by the other door for ele-' vating tie box, and a latch carried by the first mentioned door and engageable' with the box when said door is closed, for holding the lock in reset position.
8. A deposit and collection receptacle coin rising a support, a box slid ably mount ed tierein, a pair of doors for the box, one
of said doors being connected to the box and.
,holdingthe box in elevated position, means .for releasing the box when the last mentioneddoor is closed, and an incline engageable by the first mentioned door when it 1s opened for elevating the box to open the lock. In testnnony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of twowrtnesses. JACOB I-iARTlllAN.
