To all whom it may concer-a:

Be it known that we, ivan K. BERGQUAM and CONRAD BJnnxn, citizens of the United States, residing at Grafton, in the county of 1Walsh and State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful improvements in Box-Openers, or' which the following is a specilication.

This invention relates to a combined cigar box opener and lid holder, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap and effective device of this character, which comprises a blade by which the lid of the cigar box may be pried open, the blade being provided With a J -shaped slit by which nails may be extracted and the device being provided with a clasp adapted for engagement with one end of the cover to provide a holder by which the cover oi the box may be supported in open position.

Another object oic the invention is to provide a device of this character having a lip upon which is being printed a ligure designating the price oi the cigars within the box, the ligure being conspicuously displayed when the device is in position for holding the cover of the box open.

W'ith these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction of cigar box openers, hereinafter fully described and claimed.

ln the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective viev.T oi' a cigar box, the lid of which being swung back and sustained in this position by our improved device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation ci the drawings. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same.

rlhe improved device is constructed of a single strip oi suitable metal, and comprises a body l, ha *ing one oi its edges provided with a U-shaped clasp 2, adapted to overlie the body. The clasp 2 is resilient so that it may accommodate itself to diilerent thicknesses of cigar box lids upon which it is adapted to be applied in a manner hereinafter described. The body l is provided with an upturned inner edge or lug 3, and the body is also provided with a lateral extension ai. This extension e extends Vfrom the body at a suitable angle and the free end of the extension or blade 4 is sharpened to provide a substantial knife surface. As clearly illustrated in Figs. l and 3 of the drawings, the extremity of the blade Ll is rounded whereby it may be readily inserted between the lid and body of the cigar box to open the lid or the box. The blade is provided with a V-shaped slit 5 upon one of its sides, and this slit 5 is adapted to serve as a claw by which the nails of the box may be readily withdrawn.

'ihen the cover 6 ol' the box 7 is opened, the clasp 2 ell the device is inserted over the edge of the box at one ol' the corners adjacent the hinged edge ot the cover, and the lug 3 contacts the outer edge ol the cover, the angular blade lying adjacent the body ol' the box. lith this arrangement it will be noted that the cover is iirinly supported at a suitable angle upon the box. lt will be further noted that the clasp 2 ol' the device is positioned upon the front i'ace olL the cover, and the ligure upon the clasp conspicuously displayed, so that the price ol the articles Within the box may be readily observed.

From the above description it will be seen that there is provided an eliective cigar box op ener which may be readily positioned upon the cover ol the box to support the same. lt will be further noticed that the blade oi' the device may be readily employed for deiacing revenue stamps when the contents of the box have been removed.
