To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, REGINALD W. BRooKs, citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Carriers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention contemplates certain. new and useful improvements in trace carriers and the object of the invention is a simple, durable and eflicient construction of an improved trace carrier which may be readily attached at any desired point to a. hip-strap or the like of the harness, and which is arranged to effectually engage the cockeye of the trace and hold it securely from accidental disconnection no matter what 'aosition the harness assumes. And a further object of the invention is a device of the character described which relieves the hip-strap of wear, which will not catch the reins and which will prevent the horses tail from becoming tangled or caught therein.

Vfith these and other objects in view that more fully appear as the description proceeds the invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accomp anying drawing, inwhic-h Figure 1 is a view illustrating the'use of my improved trace carrier. Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical section.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.

One of my improved trace carriers is cesigned to be attached to each hip-strap A of the harness and to be engaged by the cockeye B of each trace 0 in order to support the lat ter, but it is to be understood that if desired the device may be attached to any other suitable or convenient portion of the harness.

My improved trace carrier embodies a frame 1 which in the present instance is in the form of a ring and a hook 2 formed at the lower end of the frame, said hook being inclined upwardly and outwardly as shown at 3 and having its upper end or terminal disposed sharply inwardly as indicated at 4, and extending substantially through the frame and to the outer side of the hip-strap A.

The upper end of the frame 1 is pivotally connected to an attaching member 5, the hook 2 being in alinement with said attaching member, as shown. The attaching memher is formed at its lower end with a trans versely extending sleeve 6 of greater bore than the diameter of the material forming the frame and the upper end of the frame is journaled in said sleeve and is prevented from moving longitudinally therein by two collars 7 formed on he frame at each end of such sleeve.

In one form of the invention the attaching member 5 has a threaded aperture 8 extending inwardly therethrough and is secured to the hip-strap A by a screw 9 passing through said strap and operatively engaging the threads of the aperture 8.

In the practical use of my improved trace carrier, the hook 2 thereof is engaged by the cockeye B of the adjacent trace C and serves to support the trace to prevent its becoming entangled in the horses feet and. tripping the animal.

It will be noted that by the pivot connec tion of the frame to the attaching member, the reins may be readily removed from beneath the frame in case they should become accidentally lodged thereunder, by giving said reins a jerk to swing such frame upwardly. It will also be noted that when the cockeye is engaged with the hook it will bear entirely against the latter and the frame, and will thus be prevented from rubbing the hipstrap to mar or weaken the same.

Havin t 1118 described the invention, what I claim is:

A trace carrier cemprising an attaching member 5 formed its upper end with a threaded aperture and at its lower end with a transverse sleeve, an attaching screw engaged in the threaded aperture and adapted to detachahly secure the attaching member to the hip strap, and an annular frame 1 ournaled at its upper end in the sleeve and formed in its lower end with an inwardly facing hook, the frame being formed in close proximity to the opposite ends of the sleeve with collars adapted to hold the hook in alinement with the attaching member.
