T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lizwrs D. Locax, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gherryvale, in the county of ldontgomery, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gravity-Conveycrs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptioi'i of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to gravity convevers and more particularly to that class which are designated for use in conveying material around corners or bends and the primary object of the invention is to provide a conveyer of this class of such construction that wedging or jamming of the material will be entirely obviated.
In carrying out my invention 1 provide a number of horizontally disposed rollers which are arranged in a continuous series the line of extent of which series may be adapted to the conditions under which the conveyer is to be used such, for example, as extending the series around corners of a building or the like, and in providing ateach side of the series of rollers a series of vertically disposed rollers which may be adjusted as an entirety in a direction trans versely of the first mentioned series of rollers so as to afford a runway of the proper or desired width.

As shown in the drawings, the conveyer. embodied in my invent-ion comprises a main frame which is made up of side bars which are connected in spaced parallel relation by means of suitable braces 11 and other braces which will be presently more specifically described. The side bars 10 may be of Specification of Letters Patent.

any desired length and may have any de sired line of extent it being understood of course that they are to be formed of a plurality of connected sections where a conveyer of considerable length is to be set up, some of the sections being straight and others being curved or arranged to extend at an angle so as to permit of the material which is to be conveyed by the conveyer, traveling around the corner of a building or the like.
The conveycr comprises, in addition to the main frame, a plurality of rollers which are mounted within the frame for free rotary movement and upon which the material to be conveyed is placed and these rollers will now be specifically described. Each of the rollers comprises a hollow cylindrical body which is indicated by the numeral 12 and fitted in each end of this body is a bush- 1 ing 13 the said bushing being formed in its outer fiat face with a ball race let in which are seated ball-bearings 15. Each of the bushings 13 of each roller is provided axially with openings 16 the passage of a stationary shaft 17 and fixed upon this shaft in any suitable manner and directly outwardly of each end of the roller is a bearing cone 18 which is also formed with a ball race 19 in which the ball-bearings are partly received.
Fixed upon each of the shafts 17 directly outwardly of the bearing cones 1S thereon a pair of collars 20. These collars 20 serve to hold the bearing cones 18 in proper relation with respect to the end of the rollers and in mounting the rollers in the frame of the conveyer, the ends of the shaft 17 are removably and loosely seated in notches 21 formed in the upper edges of the side bars 10 of the frame. From the above, it will be understood that the rollers 12 are free to rotate upon the shaft 17 and that inasmuch as the frame in which the rollers are mounted is inclined from one end to the other, any piece of material such as a brick or block will travel from the upper to the lower end of the conveyer when placed upon the roller.
As has heretofore been stated the object of my invention is primarily to provide against wedging of material in the conveyer and especially at bends therein and in order to accomplish this resul 1 provide at each side of the conveyer a series of rollers as will now be described. In addition to the braces 11, the side bars of the main frame of the conveyer are connected and braced by means of cross braces 22 and each of these braces is formed adjacent each end with a slot 23. Disposed upon the cross-braces 22 are bars 19 which are two in number and which extend in spaced parallel relation with respect to each other and in spaced parallel relation with respect to the adjacent side bar 10 of the frame of the conveyer and formed upon the underside of each of these bars are studs 20 wnich are inserted through the slot 23 in the cross-braces 22 and upon which are engaged nuts 21 it being understood that the said bars 19 may be adjusted toward or from each other or both in the direction of either side of the frame of the conveyer. Each of the bars 19 is formed with a plurality of openings 22 and engaged through each of the openings 22 is the threaded lower end 23 of a spindle 25. Adjacent its lower end the spindle has an enlargement or base 26 which rests against the upper face of the respective bar 19, there being a nut 21 engaged upon the threaded end 23 and hearing against the under side of the said bar 19. A roller 28 is mounted upon the spindle of each of the journals and as these rollers are identical in construction with the roller 12, a specific description of them will not be necessary.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that in addition to the horizontally disposed roller 12 I have provided a plurality of vertically disposed rollers, these rollers being arranged in two series and one series being located on each side of the frame, the said vertically disposed rollers being adjustable, one series toward or from the other so as to regulate the width of the conveyer. It will also be observed from the drawings that there is but a slight space between rollers of the series 12 and also but a slight space between the rollers of the two vertically extending series.
From the foregoing description of my invention it will be understood that little resistance is ofiiered to the passage of material through the conveyer or in other words from one end to the other thereof even where the conveyer is led around the corner of a building or the like, as the side rollers will effectually prevent the material leaving the conveyer and furthermore they may be adjusted so as to regulate the width of the conveyer.
What is claimed is:
1. In a gravity conveyer, a frame, a series of horizontally disposed rollers supported on said frame, a series of slotted cross bars connecting the sides of said frame, a pair of vertically disposed spindles between each pair of rollers, vertical rollers on said spindles, means to connect said spindles to said cross bars and passing through said slots, and elements to secure said means in adjusted relation to said cross bars.
2. In a gravity conveyer, a frame, a series of horizontally disposed rollers supported 011 said frame, a series of slotted cross bars connecting the sides of said frame, a pair of vertically disposed spindles between each pair of rollers, vertical rollers on said spindles, longitudinal bars resting on said cross bars and supporting said spindles, threaded studs projecting from said longitudinal bars through said slots, and nutson the projecting ends of said studs to hold the longitudinal bar in adjusted relation to the cross bars.
