/N VEN TH A TTUH/VEYS IBEDRICH MAZANEK, OF NEW THE TEA TRAY COMPANY YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO OF NEWARK, N. J., A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
HORN-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 26, 1909.
Application filed. March 11, 1905. Serial No. 249,545.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, BEDRICH MAZANEK, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horn-Supports, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to delivery horns of phonographs and similar instruments, and the object thereof is to provide an improved support for horns of this class which may be quickly and easily connected with and 'detached from the instrument whenever desired, and by means of which the horn will be suitably supported at all times.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which;-
Figure l is an end view of a phonograph or similar instrument showing my improvement connected therewith, part of the construction being in section; and, Fig. 2 a front view also partially in section.
In the drawing forming part of this specification I have indicated at a an ordinary phonograph provided with the usual delivery horn b The boX of the phonograph is provided with the usual lid a2 on which the base plate c of the mechanical part of the instrument is placed, and the lid a2 is provided at one end with the usual vertically arranged 'slot or opening a3 which aids in securing the cover of the instrument in place when desired, said cover which is not shown being provided with a hasp which is inserted through the slot or opening a3.
In the practice of my invention, I provide an upright support d, comprising a base member d2, the bottom of which is much wider than the top portion thereof as shown at d3, and provided with a downwardly eX- tending tongue or hasp d4 which passes through the slot or opening a3 and is provided with a slot or opening df through which is passed a key @Z6 which holds the support on the instrument. rlhe key d is the same as that which is used to hold the cover on the instrument when said cover is in use. The base member ld2 or the bottom portion da thereof is provided with two outwardly directed feet d? which rest on the lid a2 when said support is in position, and said base member is also provided on the inner side thereof with an inwardly directed foot e which is a little higher than the feet all, and which rests on the plate c, and said foot e, in the form of construction shown, is formed on the lower end of a vertical strip or plate e2 secured to back of the base member d2, the obj ect of the strip or plate e2 being to give strength and rigidity to the base member cl2, and the object of the feet Z7 and e lbeing to make the support strong and substantial and hold it in a rigid upright position.
Pivoted to the plate Z2 of the support, and in the form of construction shown on the outer side of said plate, is a vertically arranged supplemental plate f, this connection being shown at f2 and being made byl an ordinary screw, rivet, or similar device, and the lower end of the supplemental plate f is provided with a segmental slot f3 through which passes a screw f4 provided with a thumb and finger head f5, and the supplemental plate f is free to swing forwardly and backwardly `in a horizontal plane, and may be secured in any desired position by the screw f3. The upper end of the vplate f is rovided with a tubular spring keeper g which ranges forwardly and backwardly and at a slight transverse angle to a forward and backward line, and said keeper is formed Aby folding the upper end of the plate f and passing through the free end thereof and through the corresponding part of said plate a thumb and finger screw g2, and mounted in the keeper g is a telescopic arm h which may be adjusted into any desired position in sai keeper, and which in the form of construction shown, is composed of three members, the outer members being designated by the reference characters h2 and h3, and the outer member h3 is provided with a chain or other device h4 which is or may` be connected with the horn I) at h5.
The telescopic arm h may be made in any desir-ed manner, and may be composed of any preferred number of parts, and the separate parts thereof may be held in any desired position by any suitable means, an in this way my improvement may be applied for the support of horns of any size or length, and byl making the support l in the lid a2 manner described, it may be connected WithY many phonographs or other instruments of this class Without any change Whatever in the instruments or the base thereof, vas'many of these instruments as now made are provided with the slot or ope-ning a3 in the of the box thereof. It Will also be seen that by Vmaking the top 0r supplemental member f and pivoting it to the plate Z2 the said top or supplemental member may be swung in a Vertical plane and thisrWill raise or lower the outer end of the arm la according to the direction in Which the plate or supplemental member f is adjusted or moved', and in this Way the delivery'horn Z) may also be raised or lowered as desired.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z* l. The combination With a phonograph box having a lid and a plate thereon, said Vlid being slotted adjacent the edge of said of the support as herein described plate, of a horn support member overlying the said box, a projeotionhupon Vsaid member enteringy the said slot, opposite feet upon saidV member at different heights adapted to rest one on the said lid and the other on the plate, and horn supporting means held by .said member. Y.
2. In a horn support, the combination with a suitablebase-piece, of a top plate pivoted in vertical positiongto said basepiece by its lovver part and having its upper end returned forming a tubular keeper, a clamping screw through said upper part and its returned end, and a horn-supporting arm in'said keeper.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I' have Vsigned my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 10th day of March 1905. Y
