DISPLAY- CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 10, 1910.
Application filed January 11, 1910. Serial No. 537,450.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be itknown that 1, DAVID S. FoRoH- HEIMER, of White Plains, New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Display-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a construction embodying removable vertical partitions for articles of the above character whereby a number of compartments may be provided for the attractive display of goods before a prospective customer.
One of the principal objects of the invention is the provision of such a construction as facilitates the insertion and removal of partitions as in effecting a change in the size of a compartment or in the number thereof and which partitions when placed in any one of a number of predetermined positions are securely held. This feature together with various other features of the invention are disclosed in the drawing accompanying the present specification in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display case embodying my invention looking at the front side of the case, part of the front wall of the latter being broken away. Fig. 2 is a similar view looking at the rear of the case one of the doors being run back to expose the interior. Fig. 3 is a cross section one of the drawers being part-1y pulled out. Fig. 4 is a section on the plane of the line aa in Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the arrow adjacent to that line. Fig. 5 is a perspective View of one of the drawers with which the present case is fitted parts being broken away and a foldable part being shown in its swung over position. Fig. 6 is a sectional perspective showing the construction of the lower display platform and its associated partitions. Fig. 7 is a detail of one of the partitions with which the drawers are provided.
Similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts in all figures.
The illustrated display case is designed to afford both an upper and a lower space for the display of goods, the upper space being occupied by drawers which may be more or less filled with the goods and which when withdrawn more-fully expose the goods in the space beneath. The over-all dimensions of the case may be appropriate to the purpose for which and the conditions under which the case is to be used.
The framing shown embodies end pieces 2, 2, a lower front longitudinal. member 3, an intermediate separating strip 4 for vertical upper and lower glass panes 4, 1 a front corner strip 5 and a rear ledge G. The top or horizontal glass pane 5 is carried by this corner piece and rear ledge.
As before stated the interior of the case is here divided into an upper and a lower display space, the former in the illustrated construction holding drawers for displaying goods; a description of one drawer will apply to all. That is to say, the drawer embodies sides 7, 7 connected by a front board 7 and has a suitable bottom 7 The back board 8 of the drawer is deeper than the front board and is provided with a number of shallow slots 8 for holding the ends of partitions 9 (any suitable and desired number) whose opposite ends fit into corresponding slots 8 in the front board 7 whereby the drawer can be divided up into the desired number of compartments.
An antifriction device 14' for carrying the weight of the drawer is shown as supported on the longitudinal member 15 of the frame.
Referring to the lower display space a lower platform 16 is indicated this likewise having associated with it means for holding a plurality of removable partitions. As.
here represented member 3 of the frame is provided interiorly with a plurality of upright slots 17 in which are adapted to'fit the upright ends of lower partitions 18 the bottom edges of whose rear ends may be removably placed in corresponding horizontal slots 19 adjacent to the'rear edge of platform 16. In order to facilitate the proper placing of the partitions, slots 19 may terminate in a forwardly facing shoulder, see groove 20, a counter shoulder being formed on each partition. The lower display space may be closed off at the rear by any suitable means, such as sliding doors 21 supported below by a sill member 22 of the frame.
Having described my invention, I claim; 1. In a display case having a frame embodying a rear ledge, a drawer comprising in combination, partitions diagonally insertible in and removable from the drawer and a swinging leaf having a closed position in which it lies in substantially the same plane as said ledge and an open position to permit the passage of said partitions.
2. In a display case having a frame embodying a rear ledge, a drawer comprising in combination, slotted front and rear boards, partitions adapted to fit in the slots in said front and rear boards, a supplemental back strip hinged to said back board, and a swinging leaf hinged to said supplemental back strip and adapted to swing to a position in which it lies in substantially the same plane as said ledge.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID S. FOROHHEIMER. Witnesses:
