JOHN B. WILLIAMS, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
METAL-FRAME SCREEN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful MetaLFrame Screen; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to an improvement in windowscreens and has for its object to provide a device of this character made entirely of metal.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a frame for screens in which one member is provided with teeth for piercing the screen while an opposite member is provided with a rib adapted to incase said teeth and shield the same from exposure.
Another object of the invention is to simplify the construction of frames for screens and to economize in the matter of cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a metal frame screen constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through one side of the frame. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through one side of the frame and a stationary uide in which it operates. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of a portion of one of the guides. Fig. 5 is a perspective View showing one of the teeth.
Referring to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate the side members of the frame which are connected together by top and bottom members 3 and 4:. These members are made of sheet metal, each member of which is bent upon itself and the bent portion is provided Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 540,090.
with a series of teeth 5. These teeth 5 are designed to pierce the wire mesh forming the screen and to remove the necessity for tacks which are used when the frame is made of wood. The members 1, 2, 3 and 4 are provided with oppositely disposed members 1 2 3*- and 4*, each of which is provided with a central longitudinal rib 6 which is designed as a shield for the teeth 5. The ribs 6 also increase the strength and rigidity of the frame, as will be readily understood. The members 1, 2, 3 and 4 are connected to the members 1 2 3 and 4* by means of screw-threaded bolts 7. The side members are arranged in guide members 8, one of which is disposed on each side of the Window and the flanges 9 are nailed or otherwise secured to the housing in any desired manner. The guides 8 are provided with openings 10 which receive the side members of the screen frame.
What is claimed is 1. A metal frame for wire screens, consisting of an approximately rectangular frame having teeth on each side thereof, said teeth being designed to pierce the wire mesh, said frame having oppositely disposed members provided with ribs for shielding said teeth and for preventing the displacement of said wire mesh.
2. A metallic frame for screens, consisting of two sections, one of said sections having teeth adapted to pierce the wire screen, 0ppositely disposed members adapted to clamp said first-named members, ribs formed in one set of members and adapted to receive said teeth, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN B. WILLIAMS.
